So, I've heard stories about different school systems sending bureaucrats into classrooms to tell students if their lunches were, as they deemed, healthy or not. One story I recall (out of the many that gained national attention) was about a little girl that brought a home-made lunch to class... she had a turkey sandwich, banana, some chips and apple juice. The 'food inspector' said, "That's not healthy enough", told the girl she couldn't eat her lunch, and instead said she had to eat chicken nuggets. The school system then billed the parents for the chicken nuggets.

Now, according to that link, some new government regulation has changed the lunch menus to items like hummus and black-bean salad, along with a ton of other shit that no kid would eat. What's even better is the cost of the lunches have increased, some students are simply throwing away portions, and others are running a 'black market' of 'junk food.' Go go, more government regulation.

These all sound like reputable news agencies and sources of quality reporting.

I heard that this one time the government totally restricted all my liberties and I ain't standing for that because every time something is regulated, Jesus dies again.

When I was a kid, we were poor enough that we were part of the school sponsored lunches program. Yeah it was a form of welfare, come at me bro.

Anyway, I remember being pissed because all I could ever get was PB & J, pretzels, and some shitty milk or juice. You couldn't even get the really good entrees the cafeteria served (pizza, chicken, etc.)

In addition to hating all the kids who could afford that, I used to loathe all my friends who came armed with snack packs, string cheese, lunchables, etc.

I woulda killed for some government backed hummus and black beans in those days. Better than PB & J every fucking day.

PB and J is amazing.

You probably got screwed over with grape jelly. It's gotta be strawberry and it's gotta be jam.

Let's assume these are factual cases (because I agree the sources are questionable).

Do you really need a monolithic bureaucracy to make decisions like this?

Oh don't get me wrong, I like PB & J, but yeah, I was getting screwed over on the jelly.

And again...it was basically every day...and people had SNACKPACKS.

I mean, I had literally zero trade leverage.

"Hey do you want my pretzels and flattened PB & J sandwhich for your delicious pack of pudding?" Also, I'm an idiot and don't understand the lunch item economy."

you put peanut butter on both slices of bread so the jelly doesn't go through the bread.

I like the sandwich that has been sitting next to an icepack in an airtight bag for a few hours to the just made it now eating it.

I also kinda like my jelly to soak through.

I bet Callysta is one of those people who buys extra-smooth peanut butter and grape jam.

I've never seen "extra-smooth," but I never get chunky peanut butter. That's like only putting half the lug nuts back on after you change a tire...grind those fucking nuts up, you lazy peanut butter manufacturers. I also prefer grape jam to grape jelly, and I have some in the fridge at home and at work. I like strawberry jam, too, but I prefer it to be homemade by little old gray-haired ladies.

You also have to make sure when you make grilled cheese that the cheese you use is not "cheese food," but actual cheese. I can tell the difference.

I make PBJ with Walmart natural no-stir peanut butter - it tastes exactly like the processed shit because they add sugar, but it's just peanuts, palm oil, salt, and sugar. And I don't use jelly or jam, I use raspberry preserves. Peanut butter on both sides of the bread, a little more on one side, and mix the preserves with the excess peanut butter so it doesn't fall out everywhere.

I have been told I am an exlint sammich maker :D

It does, it's pretty nasty. It's one of a very few foods that I won't touch unless it's been heavily edited.

Ketchup is the other.
