Gf's sister went to the doctor and he said that she was finishing the last stage of an intestinal virus. We've learned recently that it wasn't an intestinal virus and that she's pregnant. She's 9 weeks in which means she's a little too far in for the pill.

Is it my gf's sister's fault for not getting tested earlier? Or is there any legal fault on the doctor? I'm not looking to sue the doctor for bookoo money, but compensation for all the incoming trouble would be great for her family.

I can't imagine that degree of incompetence isn't malpractice.

I'm confused about the incoming trouble part. Did the doctor have sex with her?

I'm confused as to how she missed two periods and didn't get tested for pregnancy.

Maybe that's why she went to the doctor in the first place?

You always pee on a stick before you go see a doctor if you're worried its pregnancy.

Regardless, I'll need more info before i tell you whether or not I'd sue.

Y'know, because of my vast amount of courtroom experience(keke)

Without fail, every time I have seen my physician, I'm asked "Is there a chance you could be pregnant?"

What this essentially means is "Are you having any sex?" because unless you're completely abstinent, there's always a chance. If you have stomach trouble, and you've told them you're sexually active, they will usually test you.

I'm interested in what her responses were.

No, she had sex with someone at her high school.

I wish I could provide all details needed but all I know is that she missed her period, went to the doctor, was told it was the last stage of an intestinal virus, waited a while longer, eventually took a pregnancy test, and then it was too late.

But you're right, usdk, she should've noticed the 2nd missed period. She's young, she's only 17. Gf would be extremely pissed if she found out I posted these details but... She was an adopted refugee from Sierra Leone. Her parents were killed. Her adopted mother, my gf's mother, and my gf's brother have always told her growing up that she's stupid so she's accepted it as a condition thus her poor grades and poor life decisions.

So what it boils down to is, was she asked that question and how did she answer it? If she wasnt dealing with the doctor in good faith then you have no case.

I don't see anything in this episode that justifies calling her a bitch. Even if she lied, it's completely understandable - getting pregnant at 17 is a terrifying experience, and it is human nature to prefer wishes to truth.

I think you affect misogyny to compensate for your cowardly inability to consider the needs and rights of anyone other than yourself...and that you are mortified by women who are not trashy and without self-respect.

No. I missed the part where she was his girlfriends sister, I misunderstood and thought he meant his girlfriend. As for the rest you're way off base, not that I give a shit.

(Disclaimer: malpractice is not even a little bit my area of expertise)

It might well be gross oversight, but I'm not sure on whether it's malpractice. It's also possible she had an intestinal virus and is pregnant independent of that. Everything was at the diagnosis level as well. She's 17, the doc might be a pediatrician. While he shouldn't be completely detached from pregnancy, if you guys live in a nice-ish area, he doesn't deal with it often (or ever).

Besides, 9 weeks? Abortion.

I doubt it. We're all pretty much on same page on that one, bro. If she's 17, it's better that she abort and not screw up her life and the life of the (probable) child.

I realize that. I was meaning that the "impending trouble" has everything to do with her decision to have sex, not the doctor's lack of a pregnancy diagnosis...
