Lesson: If you don't wear a seatbelt, cops will run you over. :)

Conservative Brethren reporting in:

1) Why do we have seat belt laws in the first place? This poor guy got death by nanny-state.

2) I am really hoping this idiotic idea that an "independent prosecutor/investigator" needs to be appointed because the victim's family doesn't like the decisions made by a grand jury or the cops/prosecutors not charging someone falls by the wayside. We already have far too many examples of overzealous prosecutions in this country, we don't need to give prosecutors an incentive to charge/prosecute people when it really doesn't need to be done.

3) We really need to find a way to balance protecting public officials who are properly acting in their official capacity with deep-frying the sort of idiot that starts a high-speed chase over a fucking seat belt violation and runs over someone, even if it is obvious that they didn't intentionally run over them. There'd be a manslaughter/negligent homicide charge for anyone else who did this, there should be one for this guy, too.

4) I'm guessing that the fired rookie officer idiot wasn't white and/or a "white hispanic" or we'd be treated to a repeat of the Trayvon Martin mess.

I'm not sure why you think my political affiliation would in any way condone what the officer did.

I'm conservative, not evil.

I hear the whole "his fault, deserved it" etc thing from far too many conservatives. Maybe I shouldn't lump you guys in with that lot though, I keep forgetting you're more level-headed than the conservatives I've buried with logic at UMD.

Sincerest apologies

I would be interested to see the contents of the guys car.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of a felony in the trunk or something.

Which one, the cop or the corpse?

the corpse.

Fact of the matter is, while the cop should never have run the guy down, a cop is GOING TO CHASE YOU if you run from him after he attempts to pull you over.

if the guy hadn't run, he'd be alive. Which is why I would like to know what was in his car so i can decide whether or not running was justified on his part.

just a traffic light out? shouldn't have run. multiple chopped up bodies? Yeah, I'd run too.
