Hey

Recently I've been really interested in golf, and really want to start playing. I've really never played before (other than driving ranges/mini golf) so I'm really new as to how to begin.

Not sure if anyone plays here, or has before, but I could use some advice! I read up on some guides/videos of basics and such, but don't know how to get started.

Since I have no gear (clubs, bags, equipment, etc) can you rent that at the course for the day? Or do you have to have all of your own? I figured after I play for a little I'd slowly start getting stuff of my own, but I would like to try and do everything the cheapest and most effecent way of trying out the sport.

If anyone has any suggestions or tips to getting into it, please share. Thanks!

You can find a set clubs at any pawn shop almost guaranteed.

I literally just started as well, what a coincidence! Yeah you can rent the stuff at most clubs/public courses, I'd suggest doing the driving range a bunch before you jump into the course. I also plan on taking one or two lessons and then self practicing when I have time. See if that works for you and ask for deals/pricing info.

Oh and do a lot of research, don't get duped into paying more than you need to for a super beginner lesson.

If your university has it try signing up for the golf elective. I know for my school we had to take 4 health/PE type classes and so I took a beginner golf class. Got to learn many of the rules and technique etc. Well worth it.

I used to play, and I still have my ratty old clubs. I was terrible. I take CJ to the driving range every now and again and let him shag balls. It's hilarious to watch because he won't listen and do it right and ends up popping the balls up into the overhead and back down on his noggin. If I had the time/money to play, I'd at least go out to the driving range with you, Shu.
