Isn't satire inherently politically charged? Specifically if targeted at a news company which very obviously supports right-wing views?

My point is that if Rupert Murdoch was the devil his detractors make him out to be, that...and probably more than half of the jokes on The Simpsons in the last 20+ year, not to mention the jokes on Family Guy...never would have made it on the air. That is what makes that clip funny to me. The very people sitting on their couch with some sort of smug, self-righteous satisfaction that Fox/Murdoch have had a comeuppance don't get that Fox/Murdoch only get that comeuppance because they've allowed it to happen. Even less surprising is that the dunderheads sitting on their couch enjoying the warm glow of their smug self-righteousness and lamenting the 'sweat shop' conditions mocked in the opening refuse to acknowledge that those conditions exist because they're sitting in front of the TV enjoying the fruits of the alleged sweat-shop labor.

Here's the thing...watch Fox News and you will know why Rupert Murdoch is evil. The fact that his empire extends across so many mediums, and he's allowed to decide what "news" stories are presented on that network, what angle they will take, and the like.....THAT'S what makes it so messed up.


The inherent contradiction of FOX programming (Family Guy/Simpsons/Temptation Island ) with the "conservative values" of Fox News is just hilarious.

Pretty much I account it to:

1. Sex/Violence/Raunchy Humor sell....so Fox is allowed to show those things because Rupert Murdoch wants to make money

2. Rupert Murdoch also has his political agenda, which he is able to disseminate and subsequently profit from via "Fair & Balanced" Fox News.

Pretty much Jubber, you are pointing out the contradiction and saying it's evidence that Rupert Murdoch isn't a right wing psychopath. I maintain that it is merely a contradiction Rupert Murdoch is comfortable with because it helps him maintain his wealth and power.

Fox News =/= Fox Business News =/= Fox

I see a lot of segments on Fox Business channel that completely goes against things said by people on Fox News (like Bill O'Reilly) and the same for Fox in general. As easy as it is to hate Rupert, and as powerful as he may seem, you hold this amazing power to change the fucking channel. Obama became president while people were screaming bloody murder over Fox News, so they're really not some super evil supreme power. I'm not afraid of no bad news channel, but Fox Business has some decent stuff sometimes imho.

I rode the Simpsons ride at Universal Studios this weekend so I'm all about anything simpsons at the moment ^_^
