He explains the basics pretty simply. Don't hold your breath on future experimental results.

(He personally has about 85 publications/collaborations in the field of string theory)

His book The Fabric of the Cosmos is next on my reading list.

Edit: Also, if you saw him on Colbert recently, he explained pretty well that string theory is nothing but a mathematically derived hypothesis, and that scientists would say it *might* be true, but await real experimental evidence to support it.

Much like how Einstein's math led him to hypothesize the possible existence of black holes long before they were experimentally shown to exist.

Just to pre-empt any "but string theory has no experimental evidence lol string theorists are dumb" responses. It's just a mathematically derived hypothesis.

Initiation to quantum mechanics:

HOLY FUCK THE MATRIX THE WORLD IS NOT REAL HOLY FUCK THE UNIVERSE IS A PREPROGRAMED QUANTUM COMPUTER HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK

Stopping and actually looking at the theory:

This explains how particles like photons and electrons behave at the atomic scale.

(Not that this is 100% set in stone but hey it's weird and wacky enough on it's own)

That's the biggest pile of mystical bullshit I've ever watched and I'm sure you'll find complete debunkings all over the internet. I wasn't aware that many people are spinning quantum BS.

IF YOU THINK YOU UNDERSTAND QUANTUM MECHANICS, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND QUANTUM MECHANICS.

1) It's violently unintuitive, the human brain cannot imagine it just like it cannot imagine extra dimensions (only projections/calculations).

2) Physics is now deeper than particles. Quark quack sounds good, though. Cures you with up down top bottom charm strange. That'd resonate with those folks.

edit: holy fuck, this grossed $10M

if there are alternate dimensions, surely there's a dimension in which people have invented a device that allows them to have come to this dimension. They haven't, therefore, I propose there are no alternate dimensions.

Referring to geometrical dimensions. E.g. a tesseract.

Here's Sagan looking weird explaining it:

wait maybe we're the dimension that no one has ever traveled to.

wait what if there's a dimension where they've sent teams to EVERY other dimension!

head splode.

What if there's infinite dimensions?

And one of them is where our thoughts manifest into physical beings?
