The Ka of ammonia is 5.75 log10 at 25C.

x^2 + 5.75 log10 x - .043*5.75 log10 = 0

Plugging in quadriatic equation gives irrational answer. What am I doing wrong?

I could be wrong but I tried 4 different ways and this is the most reasonable answer I've arrived at so far:

edit: oh yea... Jushiro has doctor writing.

edit2: in most cases (including this one) you can pretend the -x doesn't exist because the reduction is lost to significant figures anyway.

Pure ammonia has a pH of 11.6 so the answer seems somewhat rational.
