I will say, though, that the pastor of that church with the "a smile is a good lubricant" sign should get the shit beat out of him. I hate cowards who hide their petty motives and insipid rigidity behind an insincere smile rather than just man up and deal with the issue that's putting them at odds.

You are correct although you may not realize why.

Stereotypical trolls spread mistruth and discord because they are suffering from cognitive dissonance. They seek to share their misery with others because misery loves company - hence why the troll caricature features a sardonic grin. So in reality, the parallel is an apt one: people who flash insincere smiles when at odds, are, like forum trolls, people shilling for their lack of intellectual courage.

My interpretation expressed here is verbose and abtruse. But it's completely true. That is how it works.
