Is there an app or something I can download to stop running all useless shit and/or apps when I'm done playing on it so they don't eat my battery or do I have to keep disabling all of them one at a time?

Why wouldn't you want the gay tapatalk spam? How else will everyone know what you are using to make your posts?

i pirated the pro version. you can disable the sig, use the default one, or customize it. the freebie app probably only allows you to use the default or disable it.

I can't find a free one and supposedly it's gone. All I want to do really is disable the spam, altering it would just get me in trouble lol.

How would I go about pirating said app?

Just root your phone and uninstall everything you don't want.

Also you get cool things like leaked Gingerbread updates.

EDIT: It's the little things that make me love my phone.

What Tehra said I think, however--

Android runs on top of the linux kernel, which works slightly different from windows in this manner.

Basically, when you "close" an app, it may stay "open" as a process, but it's not "running."
If an app is coded to do work in the background then it would be running and using battery, but if it isn't (and android apps rarely do, in my experience) then all you're doing is ensuring that it loads slower the next time you open it or if you're multitasking and switch back to it. And stressing over nothing and wasting your time.

E.g.:

Time on battery = 23 hours and change.
Time since those programs were launched: almost a month.

Oh and if you're gonna root and fuck with it, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/ and read. Then read some more.

Most often than not, battery drain is caused by WiFi being on/running 24/7 or by the kernel not being very optimised for battery life. The Android version itself (touchwiz, Sense, open source project, etc) doesn't matter as much.

edit: although previousversionIforgot ==> Gingerbread was pretty huge on power management.

the issue isn't killing a program, it's preventing it from starting again.

if your phone is rooted, you can use a program (paid) called autostarts, which allows you to disable the triggers that cause programs to spawn. many programs latch onto retarded reasons for autolaunching.

the "tv screen" animation lucinth provided is available in cyanogen when turning the screen on, or off. it still looks retarded and the novelty wears off when you actually need to use your phone, and follows the trend of "look at me". i'm still not even sure what "leaked gingerbread updates" mean, other than an incomplete and unpolished release versus the stock gingerbread software, which google releases for free and others modify...

as far as free paid apps go, applanet, google it. be aware that you can have malicious content there, so pay attention to what these apps require in terms of privs.

as far as rooting goes, depends on the model phone you have. you shouldn't uninstall apps unless you know what you're doing. the proper way for an inexperienced person to do that would to use a program like titanium backup, then freeze the app in question. by "freezing", it's turning off the executable flag on the file and preventing it from running until you flip that bit back on.

As long as one doesn't fuck with the bootloader and clockworkmod/other recovery, you can easily recover from shat roms and kernels by sticking new ones on the SD card.

Oh and I pretty much consider CyanogenMod as a good devel branch of AOSP.
