People bitching about old content getting nerfed really just reinforces my understanding that most wow player don't care about the game or the challenge, they just want to be able to feel better than someone else.
It's an MMO and it's entirely rational and valid that people should seek to compete and have their accomplishments recognized. It's no different than any other competitive activity.
You are both correct kind of.
MMO's are all about "look at this shiny thing/achievement/title/whatever I have that you don't have" That's what makes end-game competition fun. THAT's where the challenge lies. You don't down hard bosses just to do it...you down them because you get a rare piece of armor or achievement or title.
Blizz should understand this...but in their effort to make bads/people who barely have the time to play feel good about themselves they have devalued many of these aspects.
For example, nerfing all the bosses by 20% significantly lessens the time that people who have beat all the end game content have to be like "yeah I'm sweet". Once everybody has that piece of armor from this boss, it is meaningless.
Think about the Celestial Steed. What was the problem with it? It cost 20 bucks, and any asshole with 20 bucks could get it. So, you don't feel awesome at all on it.
I used to have things that made me feel sweet in game. Back in TBC, T5-T6 made me feel leet because before nerfs, not everyone had downed vashj and Kael, and was working through BT. Now though, with being able to get so much from vendors and badges, nerfs to bosses etc...it's just like, "what's the point."
