1. Make an L-shape arrangement with two tables to maximize useable space.
2. Purchase a
small, wireless keyboard so you can continue to control your PC while pacing or walking.
3. Purchase a third monitor that mirrors your main monitor, so you can view and control your PC from your bed without having to relog or synchronize with your laptop.
4. Purchase two small, fashionable folding chairs so that you can have one or two people sit shotgun next to you, without having to waste space on another full-size chair nor force any guests to stand uncomfortably.
5. Even better, buy an extra keyboard and small monitor, small enough to be put away when not being used, but enough to create another terminal off the same PC for any guests.
6. Buy a grid-metal utility shelf and put it next to your PC. Keep all your supplies and large equipment such as printers there.
7. Also buy a bookcase. Overlooked but still useful. And it's not just for books, you can put CDs and boxes on it too.
8. Buy a
large, powered HEPA filter. Honeywell makes really good ones. This will not only reduce dust and make cleaning easier, but it will also increase the performance and longevity of your equipment by preventing overheating due to dust constricting cooling units.
9. Buy a small refrigerator and/or a bottled water dispenser.
10. Buy a USB hub suitable for positioning directly above your keyboard, so you can easily plug things in without fumbling or having cables running everywhere.
11. Buy either a large potted plant, or a pithos with dried flowers, to add color. I recommend evergreen trees because they can survive with low light and heat.
12. Buy a feather duster and suspend it from a pin in the wall.
13. Buy a tablecloth!
14. Buy a hook to put your headset on. More fashionable than just throwing the things on the table, and prevents accidental damage.
15. Purchase not only a headset, but also speakers, and switch between the two as need be.
16. Consider not using a dual 16:9 monitor setup, but do what I do: a 16:9 paired with a smaller 4:3. It is much easier for the mind to rationalize a primary and secondary monitor than two equal monitors. It's also much more space-efficient since less horizontal desk space is used per inch of screen space because the 4:3 can be positioned at a sharp angle.
17. Orange crates are economical, practical and attractive storage.
18. Buy a simple toolbox to put your screwdrivers and other tools in, and another toolbox to put your PC spare parts in. It's helpful to have them near the PC, more often than you think.
19. Put your OS on one hard disk, your game directories on another, and your personal files on a third. Ideally, the OS should be on a conventional, internal disk; the game directories should be on an SSD, and the personal files should be on a conventional external disk. This way, you can take your files without your games, and vice versa, and you have plenty of space for files but the games get the benefit of SSD speed.
20. Coasters. You need them.
