What is your opinion? Is using add-ons a form of cheating?

Yes?No?Why?

.......I was using that but was concentrating on the beam as well. So asked the guy to help on interrupts as a just in case.

So the question is still valid. Regardless if I am a bad DK or not.

And he was concentrating on healing =P

The question is valid but you're definitely asking it in a certain context.

The answer is that any mod that doesn't play the game for you is not cheating. The function of most mods is to provide a better interface - to see the game world more clearly, or to better interact with it, and there's nothing wrong with that. Blizzard made the UI customizable for just that reason.

See SS again, I misspoke and corrected myself. I wouldn't ask the healer to help on interrupts but a melee class that is not doing beams can be expected to help. No?

And I agree with you on the take of add-ons, was just curious if other people thought of them as cheats like this guy. The context was more just the reason the question came up not really comparing it specifically to my situation.

This.

In any case, I don't think mods are cheating...they certainly help make the game easier but they don't play the game for you as Aestu said.

The only addon that felt like "cheating" was AVR.

Didn't decursive used to have a huge debuff warning that popped up, and you just clicked it and it automatically dispelled for you...then Blizzard freaked out and made them change it.

meh i really only used UI mods...kinda feel like using a boss mod is mildy cheating...except in a few fights in BC/Vanilla, because for the most part everything is predictable to a certain point when it comes to incoming boss tactics.

Rare exceptions would be: Eagle boss of ZA back in BC...because finding someone who played with their ingame sound on for the fight was a long shot. And maybe 3rd boss of Naxx Construct wing...the dog bro w/ Decimate due mainly to the huge amount of healing needed.

Seriously since BC almost all the boss fight's i've encountered really, didn't need boss mods if you're not crosseye'd and tunnel visioned most of the boss's telltale abilities have voice, HP, or precast clues.

And yeah AVR was kinda cheap, same with decursive/Heal bot/Grid Heals, but more in the sense of simplification a already simple process than truly cheating. But then again I was the terrible priest who got kicked out of Tribunal because I am/was a terrible holy priest so nothing to say there.

That isn't much different than the current set up of Clique + Grid. AVR put giant circles on the ground or around players so you could avoid everything or know exactly where to stand.

The issue with decursive was that you created a priority list for who (players or classes) to decurse/dispell first, and then you bind decursive to a single key on your keyboard.

Then you spend MC/BWL/etc mashing that button for a few hours.

Addons are amazing. The base UI is ugly and completely non-functional.

I think that's a bit of Hyperbole. Over time the default UI has improved...I would say it's functional. Optimal? Of course not. But certainly functional.
