Our involvement in Libya is not equal or remotely close to Iraq or Afghanistan involvement.

As if Republicans are any less interventionist.

That's not the point. Continued bombing is certainly a military act, and I would consider it 'hostilities'. Obama is claiming it doesn't fall under the war powers act, with which congress disagrees (No surprise really, both branches would move to cement power in their favor). The 90 day window ends tomorrow, at which point Obama must cease the bombings or get approval or a deadline extension from congress (or maybe just one of the chambers, can't remember).

The Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists (Pub.L. 107-40, 115 Stat. 224, enacted September 18, 2001), one of two resolutions commonly known as "AUMF" (the other being "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002"), was a joint resolution passed by the United States Congress on September 14, 2001, authorizing the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the attacks on September 11, 2001. The authorization granted the President the authority to use all "necessary and appropriate force" against those whom he determined "planned, authorized, committed or aided" the September 11th attacks, or who harbored said persons or groups. The AUMF was signed by President George W. Bush on September 18, 2001.

lol a simple yes would have sufficed

but doesn't that say "against those responsible for 9/11" which means NOT iraq/afghanistan?

Well, Iraq was covered in a separate resolution, called the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002, which gives specific reasons for going into Iraq - one of which was Al Qaeda's presence in Iraq. The one that I linked gives the President the authority to use force against anyone he believed may have been involved with 9/11. I'm not sure why you say groups in Afghanistan weren't responsible for 9/11 - that's were Al Qaeda started and grew from after the Soviet invasion. You could play Monday morning quarterback and say Al Qaeda wasn't in Iraq, but I'm not sure you can say that with more certainty than those who were gathering Intel early in the last decade. We're not privy to the daily CIA and other IC briefings the President received, but at the time the intel said that we had to be in Afghanistan, so that's why we were there... and it said Al Qaeda was in Iraq, so that's part of the reason we're there, too.

The intel said OBL was hiding in Pakistan, then the President was authorized by congress to use force (which he did).

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up.

And maybe I shouldn't have thrown Afghanistan in there, but I really don't think Iraq was one of Al-Qaeda's hubs. They weren't on very good terms with Saddam iirc.

There's video and still of Saddam hanging out with at least one of Bin Laden's underlings, the connection was tenuous, but it was there, and with the possibility of Iraq working on WMDs, hard to ignore so soon after 9/11.
