While I get what they are trying to get across it was a very poor decision. They could have easily gone with a woman and a plumber and had the same back and forth.

Yeah I think the left side is supposed to be the teacher's perspective, while the right side is from the students perspective (and she has a crush on the teacher).

Either way, poor execution and it definitely looks creepy.

It's not about perspective, though it does give that impression. It's about two scenarios, one wholesome and innocent, the other from a porno (or close enough). They aren't really related except for the loose setting. If it weren't being publicized as possible promoting pedophilia it would a complete failure as an advert. As it stands it's still a failure of an advertisement, but it's getting the name and product out there.

Personally, I can't imagine how any marketing team wouldn't realize there'd be some negative reaction to that.

I agree that this isn't "promoting pedophilia". I think it's important to recognize that this company is Korean, and that the award it won was given in Cannes, France. I'd venture that the hot, high school aged school-girl fantasy meets a more relaxed public view in other countries than in the U.S. Left side is a teacher and a young student = colder than cold. Right side is porn fantasy material that is hotter than hot (I guess this is porn fantasy... ><).

I get that many people would find this offensive, but they need to get their PC stick from out their asses, methinks. The bad taste of this is what makes it so memorable. Someone in Cannes clearly thinks there's some creative genius in this. I kind of agree. Also, there's no bad publicity. Still, I wouldn't look for this to gain wide distribution in the Americas.

I think honestly their intent was to draw an ironic parallel between two different sexualizations of the teacher/pupil relationship (and then there's mine - kill me please).

It is actually funny when looked at from that perspective. Unfortunately, like I said, most people have minds too dirty to allow themselves to be amused by such irony. So the advert missed its mark. Says more about Americans than Kia.

Re Boredalt - the fact that they're Korean doesn't matter because all car companies have basically independent operations in each country they operate in.
