Pretty much what the last two posts just said.
I find the gay marriage often dumb on both sides of the argument. So I get annoyed a lot when the issue comes up.
"We don't want gay marriage - [place awful religious reason here], or better yet, my favorite argument, "How doe I explain this to my kids, this is going to have a profound effect on them".
On the other side...
"We want gay marriage because civil union with all the exact same perks legal wise as 'marriage' just isn't good enough dammit!" Plus attempts to nullify DoMA too.
I don't think government should be involved in marriage for anyone, and anyone should be able to form a legal civil union for any type of consensual dependent relationship they wish. However, as long as marriages do have legal standing, denying them to one group is unjust. It's the same idea as racial segregation - separate but equal is not equal.
