A thread getting Aestu'd... or a thread getting Mayo'd?

Bonus Points: What'd you guys think of Act of Valor? I heard it was a good action movie with terrible acting. /discuss.

You bitching about one thread getting locked when your daily 2-3 (which are exactly the same) are left alone.

I'm sure there was a good reason.

Of course there was. We can't let Aestu just argue back and forth for a couple pages, we need to lock that shit.

Oh except for all those times we let Aestu argue back and forth for a couple pages and never locked it. That was different, for some reason.

And we can't let people start a topic with a link to an article, we need to lock those too, we've never allowed that.

Well except for all those topics that people started with a link to an article that we allowed. Those are also different somehow.

If mayo can't just randomly get mad at the same type of shit he routinely participates in, this board would descend into madness. Is that what you want? You want people to be forced to read every post of every thread? There are like, 7 people on this forum man, it's important that we keep this shit locked down or things get out of control fast.

Mayo, I mean this in a constructive sense.

Sometimes it seems as if moderation goes from one extreme to the other. Where a thread will be locked, posters will unanimously or near unanimously state they disagree with it being locked, and then the board descends into 'fine, we'll never moderate, ever' mode.

Or someone will make a simple and reasonable request for a derailed thread to be split, and then 'you asked for moderation, you got it' ensues.

I see this all too often, and again this is intended to be a constructive observation as opposed to a call out.

This is just so you all can understand how I feel when I read a Clarence Thomas opinion.

I think I'm just gonna start doing chainsaw surgery with threads that are getting Aestu'd. Threads that are made with the sole purpose of arguing will be left alone (maybe say in the OP that its an argument thread, just an idea).

For example, I feel like Aestu prattling on about how pets are stupid is looking like its slipping into a derail. I'm gonna nuke Aestu's original post and all of the counterarguments afterwards. It looks like Battletard posted something noteworthy at a glance that also contributes to the thread while also arguing. If that happens, I'll probably just nuke the quote.

If this is ok with everyone, I'd also like to propose a rule that if you (read: Aestu) just copies all his argument posts into a word document and gets into a pissing contest, I'm gonna ban people. If it wasn't the intent of the OP for the thread to be a pissfest, it isn't going to be one no matter how much you want it to be.

EDIT: If some thread explodes in a manner of hours and someone isn't around to handle it and there's too many tl;drs to sift through, I don't think a lock is too much out of the question.

Can't argue with this. Objective facts, etc.

Or you can just ban Aestu and be done with it.

I've already brought this up with the other mods months ago and the vote was against the ban. Not to mention that gutting posts puts everyone on notice as opposed to just Aestu.
