Since Black Lotus and Channel have been banned for almost 20 years now, I'd say yeah, they have.

I researched this.

You're wrong. Black Lotus, in vintage style gameplay, has been restricted since 1994 to 1 per deck. I stopped playing in 1995, and it was perfectly legal to have a lotus at that time.

"Standard" gameplay, is a later design that required people to use specific sets of cards, enabling the company to force people to pay for new sets.

It's as close to banned as it will get.

Googling isn't "researching" because you have no frame of reference.

No one plays Type 1 except as a sort of joke. Playing it wouldn't even be fun or practical since your entire deck would have to be proxies. Yes, Type 2 is a cash sink, which is a major reason why the game is lame now (besides the new graphics). 1.5 is the generally accepted "vintage" format and it's what people play.

Obviously it was legal to "have" a lotus in 1995 (possession ban? lol?) but the card itself was banned from any practical tournament format since at least a year before (Revised).

"Type 1.5" came out in 2004. Your 20 year frame of reference is wrong.

Keep talking out your ass about tournaments back then, when I played at official tournaments at Jim Hanley's Universe. You were what, 7 years old?

zzzz

The point of Type 1.5 is that it allows the broadest variety of cards to be used. You can use any of thousands of cards all the way back from Arabian Nights forward to the latest releases. It was first implemented in 2004 when Revised made the game at least semi-balanced as a compromise format between just using newer cards, and allowing the most wildly unbalanced cards from Type 1. Hence the decimal. Obviously, thousands more cards have come out since then, so this cumulative format encompasses a much wider selection.

I actually haven't played many Magic tournaments at all, then or more recently. Likewise, I'm sure you haven't lost many games to people stocking $200 Black Lotuses in their casual play deck.

They were banned. The article you posted discusses types not present when the power 9 were originally banned (I don't think Channel was one of the 9, though I may be wrong). After they restructured the way they labeled game types they went back and restricted the cards. It was always allowable to play whatever both people agreed upon during casual play, but there was a point in time when they were banned from tourneys.

Who plays Magic by any set of restrictions other than "Don't load a deck with douche cards"?
