Engineer isn't really a proper name and I hope it isn't something like everyone thinks it is. I'd expect Mesmer so they can go "haha!" for another few months. Or the full sadface mode and it will be Sylvari design rofl :<

I'm amazed at the mad directed at this class.

I mean really, I don't remember hearing anybody getting mad when rifles and guns showed up - how long ago?

I don't see anything this class has that hasn't already been alluded to, with maybe the exception of that mine with the sensor on it.

Which could be a magical sensor for all we know.

Excellent interview about the process behind creating the professions

Quote:
Tap: Although we know that some of the discarded classes from Guild Wars have influenced Guild Wars 2 (there are parallels between the engineer/ritualist and guardian/paragon/monk), was it a case of when establishing which classes were brought into the sequel, which would fit into the revised play style better (with the removal of the holy trinity) or was it that ArenaNet were never truly happy with some of the original classes within Guild Wars?

Jon P: Some of it is entirely personal choice, but there are definitely professions I’m not sure we were so happy with how they turned out. Some of those professions are very Canthan or Elonan. Where we are now is the main continent of Tyria and because of greater globalisation there are elements we can carry over, but to some extent — and it wasn’t because we didn’t like what they did in Guild Wars 1 — it’s just that we thought we wanted something different in terms of combat.

For instance, we talked about removing the monk and the healer, which was a decision that was made before any professions were decided on. It was one of the very first things we said we wanted to do from a design perspective, even though some people weren’t excited about the idea, but to most of the people who were having these discussions it was a crucial piece to building the kind of game we wanted to build.

I'm making an engineer named Dell Conagher as a main I think, and bind "Sentry goin up!" to my turret ability.

Anybody that attempts to steal that name from me will suffer immensely.

I'm too lazy to copy/paste the twitters, but there's some good stuff about combat and character customization, as well as screens as playable asura and slyvari areas.

The new blog is up too - underwater combat detailed.

http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/d ... -dungeons/

Quote:
Each of our dungeons is divided into story and explorable versions. The story version of each dungeon comes first, and completing it unlocks the ability to run the explorable version. In turn, the explorable versions of the dungeons have several options (usually three), each of which creates a different set of challenges and goals in the game. So, when we say that there are currently eight dungeons, we really mean there are thirty-two dungeons, as each dungeon has a story version and three explorable versions.

Story vs Exploration modes are going to be awesome. The fanday guests just started playing, so I'll update w/good tweets are they play.

Been horrible about keeping this updated.

Parts 1 and 2 of a 3 part series on sound design.

Both parts of an excellent interview from ComicCon

Part One

Part Two

Another excellent ComicCon interview from a polish fan site

I considered picking through the community event stuff, but almost nothing was new information. There was a pretty good post on GW2Guru w/all the class reactions (QQ no ranger because they suck apparently), and I'll try to dig that one up, but not guaranteeing anything.

Here they are!

As you can see, the underwater combat abilities actually make sense in that environment. I loved using the Elementalist's air spells the most, especially the Air Bubble and Air Pocket spells. These types of attacks are just a taste of the creativity that's to be had in all of Guild Wars 2's combat, and one of the reasons that I'm so impressed with what I've seen of the game so far. It's difficult to play an MMO today where you don't think that one game is copying the abilities from another game, but while playing GW2, I constantly found myself pretty hyped to be trying things I'd never seen before.

Profession impressions for every class minus the Mesmer, because it really hasn't been announced yet.

The thief also got a huge rework after it, and there are some impressions floating around from ComicCon, but I'm not going to post them. Next big update will be in two weeks (well, next week as well since it's going to be Sylvari week!) at GamesCon.
