Montreal is pretty decent of cycling. Roads in general are pretty shitty though, so when you have 120psi tires it kind of sucks.

I'm no pro, though. My last ride was 11mi and I was doing 11mph, according to some app on my phone. Not sure if that is a good speed or not, but I do hope my distance and speeds will increase as I continue exercising.
What app do you use? I've been using iMapMyRide and it seems pretty decent, at least it's the only one I've found with website integration so when you're done you can just upload your workout and route to their site easily then look back/track your progress on the web easily instead of a more-limited mobile app.
11mph is probably pretty decent for a mountain bike. I don't know, I haven't rode one for so long. I kind of want to take out my old one just for fun to see how big the difference is between road/mountain bike tires. The amount of resistance must be huge. I usually bike 15.5-18.5mph on my bike depending on the distance. Like last Sunday I did ~46 miles @ 15.5mph. I definitely ride way faster (and further) than I could at the beginning of the summer though. I think one of the biggest things I noticed other than becoming more fit, is that I was probably always riding in way too high of a gear, my front chainring has 3 rings and I almost always used to be in the highest gear unless I was going up a hill and I was putting a lot more effort in to pedaling, now I am almost always on the middle chainring pedaling faster but with less resistance and I find it much faster. Gotta find that ideal cadence!
I bought a pair of clipless pedals + shoes + new chain/tuneup (chain was stretched from riding like 2000km, gears were all fucked up, rims slightly bent, cables not lubed forever, brakes not good, etc...) so tomorrow after work I'm going to pick it up with the clipless pedals and all ready to go. Preeeeeeeeeettyyy excited about that. Probably going to not be able to unclip my shoes at some point and fall over like a boss.
