I love the starting event demo'd in the video. I think it's brilliant to push players into combat instead of picking flowers and killing some low-end monsters in some quantity. The boss fight was pretty neat - I like the dodge mechanics, I like the scaling dificulty. The skill leveling (by weapon instead of level) is neat... but I wonder if the skills are the same for all weapon types (sword, gun, hammer) or if it changes based on the name of the weapon.

When the video transitioned to the under-water fighting I wasn't very impressed. It looked as lame as other underwater combat mechanics. I like not drowning. I like being able to sink an enemy, but I feel like that's a silly skill since you can't drown them as they sink. W/e.

Oh, the dragon was beast. I loved watching the island/castle crumble beneath him. The wall of bones was pretty cool. I like how there are half a dozen different things you need to do to win (defend cannons, raise engineers, damage dragon, fight mobs, etc.)

PvP map looked weak as hell. "Destructable environments..." looked cheesy as hell. I feel like I might be disappointed with a lack of World PvP. :(

I think of sinking players like an equivalent to the distance gain moves on land. But under-water fighting is what it is, there isn't much you can change with it. I think you need to have seen the live pvp video of ArenaNet vs Boon, but it was on around 7am central since this is in Germany. Destructible environments seems like a cool idea and as you can see it does change how you might play a map.

Asura laugh animation at 28:12 was funny to watch and Guardian skills look neat. Especially dat knockback.

The only thing that bothered me in this video is the jackass who kept saying mkay mkay mmhm mkay mmhmm mkay mkay every 30 seconds.

Do we know if GW2 is going to be faction-based at all with World PvP? It looks like all races are on the same side so I guess it's just 'dueling' or something?

Sounds like there is no open pvp, which I find is probably going to be a big letdown for me.

Even when I was generally not being aggressive and looking for fights, the persistent threat of flash combat meant that the high never dropped below at least a caffeine rush.

There is no factions and this has been the idea since forever. So while I agree that removes some good fun it isn't something that will keep me away. 5v5 is equivalent to arena's from what I gather and I think one of the videos showed 10v10 matches going on also.

So, I've played nearly 7 hours so far this weekend; if you have any questions ask away. I'm also competing in one of the PvP tournaments tomorrow, which will give me a bit more perspective there.

Tell me everything.

I'll be posting a full write up Monday, if you can wait until then.

Spoiler: GW2 is better than I imagined, and I will not regret a single penny spent on this game. It's amazing, even in this alpha state. BUY IT.

(I spent 15 minutes herding cattle with a cattle prod earlier, and it was fun....)

Also, Colin Johanson is one of the classiest, friendliest, passionate and knowledable devs/people I've met in a long time.

And for you PvP nerds, a large group of the PvP content leads and designers came from Mythic, and want WvWvW to be evocative (and an evolution) of DAoC's RvRvR. Soooooo much yessssssss

@Eturnal : skills are the same per class of weapon (pistol, rifle, longbow, shortbow, longsword, shortsword, 1h axe, mace, 2h hammer, great sword, warhorn, torch, scepter, dagger, focus, staff, shield), and by class.

Destructible environments are sweet tbh. I wish they had streamed this morning's PvP as I had some great ganks utilizing it. Ex: camping outside the windows on the clock tower and waiting for part of the other team to filter in, then blowing the windows out and swarming them for a quick early point lead/cap.

The only question I care about the answer to: does it handle as smoothly as WoW, or does it handle like every other MMO?

It handles like WoW, yes. It's fluid and responsive and gorgeously animated.
