Now to decide if I can be bothered to buy this and play it once every month.

I was playing it this morning on the xbox. I forgot how it felt to have your cover blown up by a rocket. I wasn't doing too well at first but after a few rounds I got the hang of where to go attack and defend since at least on the 360 the only mode available is Rush and there is only one map.

Weapon customization means life and death. Those with the higher ranks have all sorts of shit unlocked and it more or less means starting off you're going to be at a disadvantage. Both sides have their own unlocks so just because you unlocked that sweet ass red dot sight, you won't have it for both attacking and defending.

It's pretty easy to slip past enemies but knifing and knife kills feel awkward to me. You have a good second where you can't tell if you hit until you see yourself dig the knife into your target's throat. Or you die because they shoot you. Also a regular passing knife will not kill someone in a single hit.

Overall it's fun and I like how big the maps are, it's easy to sneak around and find good cover and sniping positions. Let's not forget blowing holes in buildings where people are hiding too. That's always fun. I hope they throw in some new maps or vehicles before it ends.

Game crashes when I try to go in to full screen mode.

And the whole web system for joining games and whatnot is dumb, hopefully it's just some ghetto patch for the beta. Why does the game launch in window mode, why is there no way to change settings without being deployed in an actual game?

EA is why. It is there to try and stop whatever piracy there might be and it is annoying and dumb as fuck. I will say though it does play quite smoothly. Everything was defaulted to High and no AA enabled and it ran very smooth on my 6870. It still isn't my style of game but I was only playing Metro and had fun for an hour or so. Might buy a key from those online sites.

Played Metro on XBL for about an hour...

Things I liked:
* Effect of being lased and getting the red hue on screen
* Lighting effects from rockets and flashlights are amazing
* Player movement and animation is beautiful and extremely fluid
* Rush Mode is still fun to play
* Destruction is better
* Recon has more ammo at start

Things I'm not sure about yet:
* Environments are way larger than they were in Bad Company 2 but vehicles will hopefully make this a non-issue
* Lots of COD camping of doorways now that you can go prone
* Knifing feels even slower than it did in Bad Company 2... but I guess it's better than the weird feeling insta-kill "Tttssstt" from COD
* I don't like how there isn't a 'Medic' class anymore that can use both Med-Kit and Defibs at the start
* Support is the new Ammo Supply... Assault is the new Medic. Just a weird change.
* Points for having your squad spawn on you is lolwat?
* Deploying Ammo/MedKit doesn't quickly return you to a firing state even if you push the fire button. I seem to think it did that in BC2. I hope this is a bug and get's worked out.
* A couple graphical issues when I was playing (like spawning and having everything with a dark blue filter until the next respawn)

The one thing I saw when I was playing that was absolutely retarded was the "tactical flashlight" attachment blinding people from what seemed to be a vast distance. The laser pointer was one thing (took some skill, at least), but the flashlight was just fucking cheap and needs to be dialed down more the farther away it is.

Is it just me or is there so much butthurt over the actual game for seemingly no reason?

@Jubber
Laser was neat having your screen tint red when it was being aimed at your face. But I agree that flashlight can be something else.

Running smoothly, main factor of FPS. BF3 has done this, will be great.

Bad Company 2 felt choppy to me; sucked. Vietnam didn't; was fun.

BLOPS feels shit compared to MW2. BLOPS is also a terrible game.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

I was able to play last night, 4 of us had a little BF3 lan. I have never seen so many game crashes in my life on all of our PC's except one, but it's beta so I guess that's OK. I thought the flashlight was retarded for another reason, it gives up your position so easily. The game seems alright but I doubt I'll be buying it because my computer is almost exactly the "minimum requirements" to play and it's not good enough to play it smooth. I don't like the web browser as the menu thing they've got going on though. You can't change game settings, quit, anything without being alive/deployed. If you die in the middle of going through the menu... too bad!

Well, I'm supporting the game, but I'm biased. The company I work for is hosting the PS3 and Xbox servers, and I have a financial stake in it being successful and played on the regular by a lot of people for months to come.

That said, I'm buying my kid a 360 for Christmas and he's getting that game.
