I do hate that they refer to the States as America, since that means both continents, but that's not the point.

Nobody is against people being rich - people are against the rich who are greedy. There is a huge difference. You don't see Bill Gates, the picture of rich, hoarding all his cash do you? No, he's changing the world for the better. That is our responsibility as human beings (within our means, of course). Otherwise, we're no different from other animals.

The Dems are proposing raising taxes on the top 1/5 of 1% in order to better our country. That is pennies for them. Shit, I was in support of raising taxes on incomes of over $250k, which would include my family and hopefully me one day. I am still in support of it. Yes, I was born lucky, just like Tuhl. Instead of shitting on people who weren't as lucky, I want to help. Call that "leftist brainwashing and selfish" all you want, but you will only be showing your own biases.

I also severely disagree with those who think that "dead-end" majors had it coming. If everyone was pre-med, pre-law, or whathaveyou, those positions wouldn't be as lucrative and you'll just have terrible doctors/lawyers/etc because people got into it for the money. I think people should do what they love. That said, they shouldn't expect a seven-figure salary, but they can reasonably expect much more than minimum wage.

Also, I will NEVER work at McDonald's or any retail-ish position ever again. Telling someone who graduated from college to get a job is shit. Stop doing it.

Finally, while I agree with almost everything that Tuhl said, I really don't think it was necessary to get personal with Jubber just to make a point. He is a really good guy, and I've only met him once (which will change soon, hopefully).

This is where our generation pisses me off.

I'll agree...I NEVER EVER want to work fast food again. I did it for four years in high school, and that was more than enough.

BUT - If I was unemployed, and I needed money...and I was looking for work...I'd sure as hell take a shitty fast food job if it would help me pay my bills while I looked for something better. I'd do it before begging for government handouts.

If one of your only options for employment is fast food, then you are a fuck if you think you are above it.

Right, it's way better to take a massive cut and work at mcdonalds for minimum wage (if you can even get hired, you can be turned down for being too qualified) than to continue collecting the unemployment you paid for with all those taxes from the years and years you've worked.

You don't seem to be aware of the fact that employees don't pay into unemployment.

Only businesses do...it's called an unemployment tax/insurance. Essentially, any business (like the one I work for), has to pay a tax based on how many employees we have/what wages we pay them. So, while we are creating jobs, we have to also pay into unemployment...because idk...it's the business' fault that they can't simply hire everyone or something.

Anyway...I don't feel I would be entitled to unemployment if I could reasonably still work. Someone who doesn't want to be a government leech? Shocking, I know.

Those taxes have probably been eaten up by people who didn't go to college and won't work in fast food.

I don't think I'll ever not be able to find work in my chosen field. There's always something. During the worst times of our economy, I was fortunate enough to have 3-4 jobs (and for some time I even had all 4 at once!)

I absolutely refuse to think I am unemployable after the schooling I've (of my own choice, of course) gone through, and I do think I am above working at McDonald's. That is NOT to be confused with me thinking I am above people who work at McDonald's. All I am saying is that I actually am overqualified for fast food preparation.

There's nothing wrong with admitting that either, so don't try chastising me for doing so -more than a few FUBU'ers are overqualified as well.

No, they still happened. I was just expressing my opinion that "no...if you have no option but to get a fast food job, that means you aren't above getting a fast food job and you shouldn't act like a bitch about it."

Man up. Get paid. If you don't like the current job, then look for a new one.

Do what you have to do...but please PLEASE don't whine and QQ that your mommy lied to you and told you that you could be whatever you want when you grow up. Don't QQ because it's not actually true that getting a degree in anything will guarantee you a job.

If I believed everything people told me, without thinking things through, you'd call me a dumbass, right?

It's like that with this generation and their complaints about a rough life after graduation. Sorry your Classics degree didn't pan out...but you should have known that being able to translate Latin and list every Greek/Roman god/goddess has a very limited application to the real world.

Sorry your Art History degree didn't guarantee you a job making 100k a year. You should have known that your options were limited to things like 1. Museum curator 2. Starving artist

No one gives a shit about Modern Art versus Impressionism. At least not enough of a shit to pay you for knowing about it.

Sorry your Philosophy Degree didn't pan out. If I'm going to bring a person in to a company to make a shit ton of money...the last thing I'll have them do in the interview is give me a 2 hour diatribe on existentialism and Aristotle's ideas.

Sorry your Women's Studies degree doesn't entitle you to a six figure salary....we get it, Women's Suffrage was a big deal. But all the essays you read about women empowerment don't exactly mean you are worth anything in this economy.

MAN THE FUCK UP.

You don't seem to be aware that states collect the tax, meaning in some states employees pay directly. There is also additional funding that comes directly from the government in time of high unemployment.

Not to mention, the more naive amongst us (looking at you libertarians) would have you believe that said tax translates into lost wages, since the removal of the tax would mean more money the company could pay the employee.

Do you own a house? Do you have a family? Do you think you would suddenly be able to afford it if you made minimum wage? Do you think you could quickly sell your house and rearrange your family's expenditures to fit an entry level mcdonald's wage? Of course you couldn't. You're playing the same game the conservatives play "Well I don't have to face hard times and make difficult choices, so I'm going to try to take a moral position and look down on people who do what's best for their families, until something happens and I have to decide between mcdonalds while looking for a job, or unemployment while looking for a job. I'll choose unemployment, but I'm not like all those liberal leeches who have worked for years and years before getting laid off, because the government owes me and I have to take care of my family."

This is why I just post images in these kinds of threads, people don't actually read the posts anyway.
