I log on occasionally, mostly to level alts. All my 85 lock experience is as Destruction, which is fun but probably not the ideal.

If destruction exists, we must destroy everything.

This thread prompted me to check on Bleeding Hollow progression. I hardly recognized any. It made me kind of sad. I checked the players and recognized very few names. As much as I want to want to play again, I can't summon it from within me to resub.

Especially knowing in the back of my head what MoP will bring. Blizzard really sold out hardcore, and I'm not talking about simply MoP...I'm talking about everything.

It's a damn shame considering how much I liked the WC1 & WC2 series, and though I never experienced Vanilla endgame (at least on retail..top horde progression guild on Scriptcraft, sup) I thoroughly enjoyed TBC and wish I could have raided more and experienced Sunwell and Black Temple.

I enjoyed the first half of Wrath, though not as much as TBC. Had very high hopes for Cataclysm, especially in terms of reviving world pvp and re-introduction of the epic quest chains and attunements of Vanilla and TBC...which I believe gave the game more of a larger than life / heroic feel.

blah.

What's the term for having a biased view of the past? Like how people always say "oh well times were better back then"? Isn't there a term for that?

Anyway, part of me thinks a lot of us do that with WoW....but then the other part of me thinks...man TBC really WAS that much better. I never played in vanilla...but TBC was definitely the glory days.

It will never be that way again. I'm glad I don't play anymore...it just got so depressing, logging on, doing a random with a bunch of people I'd never see again (most of whom were pretty bad), then farming some mounts or doing some grindy solo quests.

The game just stopped being fun. Too many people I knew quit, and the game itself just became so.......

The common idiom is to look 'through rose colored glasses'. We've all been over this before. There are definitely a significant amount of things they did to make the game better since classic, but at the same time they ruined the world itself.

Then you have the elitists complaining that they can't be elitists anymore, which is a shit argument honestly. If your happiness in a game depends on your ability to look down on someone else you've got a problem.

The best parts of vanilla and BC was the community. WoW, at the time, was more about fun shit to do with your friends.

Now it's less fun shit to do with complete strangers.

The little things in this game is what used to make it awesome. Things like leaving SW/ORG in order to do things. I really think the world atmosphere started really tanking when they introduced flying mounts, the idea of flying mounts was awesome and I was super excited for them but it didn't take long for them to ruin world PvP.

I also never thought I would say it but doing attunements / acquiring resistance gear(even having to get your own consumables ><) made the raids feel that much more awesome.

I kind of miss having 8p bonus's especially with places like DragonSoul which only have one of each slot per class in it anyway, they overlap a bit like one pair of dps bracers for rets, warriors and DK's could have easily been made into a token for those 3 class's and added another bonus down the line.

I'm also not a huge fan of 10ms in general. With a 40/25m it took a lot more work to have a competitive raid but it felt a lot more "epic" to down a boss with 39 other guys rather then 9 and I think having more people in a raid made the strats more interesting. Nowadays the only options is do you 2 heal or 3 heal 1 tank or 2 tank, I remember loading up on dps in 25ms and bringing like 4 healers who would chug pots and work there ass's off because a fight had a hard enrage. But having been a raid leader of both 25's and 10's it is way easier to organize a 10m : [

I kind of hate valor gear/BH/LFR as well. I think that is whats killed the raiding community the most, back in vanilla if people wanted epic gear they had to go work as a team and raid for it and thus you had tons of people who wanted to raid and we had piles of 40m raiding guilds running around. Now with the "welfare epics" you get less and less people that care about the competition aspect. I do get that the game is all about having fun and a lot of people still have fun porting into raids with strangers and /rolling on gear and I like the fact that people who can't raid 5 days a week still get to see end boss's. But at the same time it was awesome back in the day to see a full glad walk by or a guy with his 8/8T2.

I am pretty lucky though to have fallen in with the RM people(who aren't nearly as Elitist, yadda, yadda as people always claimed they were) after the fall of Ethereal Legion as they have a good number of old timers(I think 7/10 in my group have been on server since launch).

As far as the server as a whole, it is sad that there aren't really any 25m's anymore and kind of disappointing that my team is like server 8th and we only raid 2-2.5 nights a week especially considering every other week we miss out on our progression raid due to people having work/holidays/other shit come up(stupid 10m's "oh you don't have a rogue tonight? can't do that boss" "Oh your disc priest had to work? cant do that boss" so annoying ><).

I never really "played" WoW, even though I played the game. It was just another forum for meeting and/or screwing with people. I wasn't serious about PvP, though I liked it. I was never in a raid guild, and the small amount of raid experience I had was the result of people asking me to come along because they had something on farm and just wanted my company/for me to see the raid.

I liked leveling alts and finding new things. Every level experience was a little different, because I purposely did something different on every character. The first mount I bought on my mage at Lvl. 40, back when that was when you got your first mount, was a cat. I'd spent every level from 10-38 doing quests that would give me Night Elf rep so I could be exalted to buy it. I stopped leveling my shaman once it hit 49 until almost the time WotLK came out, because ENH dual-wield PvP was so much fun in that bracket...and the like the mage, the first mount for the shaman was from another racial faction, because Elekks fucking suck. I bought my shaman a pony.

I think they'll probably fix a lot of the things I didn't like about Cataclysm in the next expansion, and it might be fun to play. However, like many of you have already said, there's no community anymore. The things I liked doing that made it worth $15 a month to play aren't really there anymore. There's also the added bonus of my ability to hold a grudge indefinitely. I said when I quit that I was never going to come back to WoW. They'd have to show me something incredibly impressive to make me change my mind, and I don't think they have it in them anymore.

If I get my new computer together next month like I'm planning, I'm probably going to at least look at GWII.

Jubber

You sir, are correct.

But as far as valor/bh... DoubleH is right.

I think the whole "community is dead" thing comes from Random dungeons/Raids thing, I pretty much only meet new people in the 10mins I'm in a BH group or if they app to my guild : [ Pre "randoms" when you had to like build a group to go do a 5m it was a lot more fun(though I bit more time consuming). The reason I ended up joining RM is because I did a trade chat Naxx25s when I leveled my shaman and me and Zires(from RM) ended up leading it because the guy who made it had no clue what was going on. I ended up doing 5mans with him and some other guys from RM till like 5am and a few months later when my guild exploded Zires told me I had to go raid with them so I did. But if I had been in a LFR with a bunch of random ass people who don't give a shit because they will never see you again that will just ride it till it falls apart and then Que for a new one(IE takes zero effort) I would have never made a new friend and eventually found that new "home".

So impersonal these days ; [ I actually found more cool people playing on the PTR for DragonSoul then I had met all expansion, because they were all interested in the game and playing well and we had to make pug groups because we only had 2-4people from BH on there at a time(that we could find).

This.

I remember back in TBC, if you wanted to do a heroic...you had to sit and spam in trade FOREVER. It almost encouraged more friendships because if you found...a good tank or healer, for example, then you wanted to remember them for next time. You wanted to add them and play with them again because it was like "oh, you're not a bad, it was fun pwning stuff with you, let's get together again"

Nowadays it just isn't like that with LFD. If you happen to get someone good it's "whew, lucked out there!"
