yeah, no. the only good thing about the video is that a kid got punished for something, but all of the inevitable GR8 DAD stuff that came as a result is a joke.

You shouldn't be allowed to have opinions on anything relevant considering most of your opinions on stuff after the 1920's are wrong... even if they're you're opinion. They're still wrong. getoverit. (I should've hash-tagged that for coolness!)

Plus, ITT: Grim has some daddy (step-daddy?) issues he needs to work out instead of pretending all guys are just like his daddy.

You people should check out this guys' facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/tommyjordaniii

From his comments, they've sent Good Morning America away, and aren't trying to gain from all this attention.

Also, if he thinks he's God's gift to the planet...he certainly doesn't seem to be expressing that in follow up posts:

Quote:
This may come as a wild shock to some.. wait for it.. wait.... (I need that guy who did the awesome HD youtube parody to do me an intro here. Where is he when I need him?)

I'm NOT a hero... of ANY kind... at all.
I'm not a super-dad, or awesome parent.

I'm a normal guy with reasonable a moral compass that I try very hard to keep pointed north. I make a LOT of mistakes. Did I say a LOT? I mean a WHOLE lot! Daily... sometimes hourly!

I'm extremely lucky to have a very strong wife who tolerates me and puts up with my mistakes, and who herself is strong enough that she can put me in my place with only a look.. no really.. you haven't seen her "I'm not kidding anymore" face... it's serious.
(For example I can apparently destroy a laptop and garnish world-wide attention in mere seconds, but I guarantee tomorrow morning my wife will say "Hey Chuck Norris. Make the freakin BED WILL YOU PLEASE" because I'll forget to.
(I have to admit the "Chuck Norris wears Tommy Jordan pajamas" comment will stay with me for the rest of my life. I want that on a bumper sticker!)

I'm lucky to have great kids (two of them) who look up to me despite all my mistakes.
I make bad parenting decisions all the time. We all do. Personally, I stand behind the decision I made earlier this week by posting the video. I don't find fault with it. If I had it to do again... let's see... I'd do it almost the same.

He's actually raising money for the MDA with his new-found "fame". I like this guy more and more.

I've read with interest all the parenting comments posted here, and I'd like to take a quick poll:

Raise your hand if you've personally parented one or more of your children from birth to adulthood.

Anybody?

If that were any proof of having a competent opinion on the topic, the world would be a lot better off than it is.

Take it as a valid point.

I think Boredalt is spot on with his point.

How much can you know about parenting unless you've actually been one?

Who knows more about any subject? The person who sits and reads books about it all day, or the person who is actually DOING it (and maybe read up a bit about it)?

Think about a surgeon. Who would you rather have operating on you? A man who has never actually performed surgery, but can recite every book he has read on the subject of how the surgery should go.....or a man who has performed dozens upon dozens of successful surgeries?

The guy who looks at it more objectively.

Like I said, if being a parent meant you understood it, parents, in all times and places and certainly the here and now would do a lot better job than they do.

Hundreds of millions of parents do a terrible job of raising their children and are none the wiser for their mistakes. Or do you disagree with that assessment, Azelma? You - would you second-guess your own mother?

There's, what, two billion parents on earth? I'm prepared to say a good many of them are pretty inept, and I don't think they became any more competent or understanding when they knocked someone up.

False analogy; parenting is a fundamental of human existence, surgery is a technical skill.

By your logic, only politicians should be allowed to vote for Presidents. Do you agree?

I'd also like to take a quick poll, who here has been in a parent-child relationship?

Everyone?

Well looks like we can continue with the discussion.

Azelma parenting isn't anything remotely like surgery, that's a very bad comparison.

That only makes you qualified to comment from the child's perspective...which is what I'm seeing a lot of here.

You're being insensitive. Some of us are chthonic. And I'm pretty sure others were conceived through parthenogenesis.

See my analogy about presidential elections.

The proof is in the pudding; being a parent does not make an opinion more qualified. Humans are dense by nature, and their views and attitudes generally can't be changed by any experience they may have.
