As a soon to be USNA cadet, FIRST; RUN you can not gain muscle without getting the blood flowing in your body, you may gain a little but a lot more with your blood pumping. Second DO Crunches and push ups at the MID point of your run, Currently i do 100 crunches with 50 pushups then finish the second half, it adjusts your body to working with those sore muscles building on them. Third: A cheap easy thing, buy a punching bag,(Heavy bag 90 lbs) get some bag gloves and make sure your wrists are wrapped (or youll have the worst wrist in days) and get some music, whatever, time yourself and go absolutely as hard as you can everything youve got (i nearly passed out after each session when i first started) for 3 minutes. Then do more crunches and pushups, i hate to put numbers on the amount you should do, basically do it until you cant do it anymore, until your sore, find an amount that works, stick with it and do 5 more every 2 weeks. Do this as much as you can preferably every day (the running portion shouldnt take more than 10 minutes it doesnt need to be insane the work out in its entirety takes around 20, convenient and it works)
