Considering the AH has been down almost every time I was on last week, I don't think so.
I always thought Diablo was about grinding through content to get better gear, just to grind through the 'same' content to get better gear. If you remove the reason to grind through content (other than "I LIEK GRINDING THROUGH CONTENT") then what else is there to play for?
Serious question.
Like Lucinth said, you grind to get gold so you can buy gear for your mans. The drop rates for stuff are abysmal in D3 and the chance that you're going to get a decent upgrade to something you already have just by playing the game is astronomically small. I'd much rather play through the game with my friends, get gold, and get upgrades from there than to bash your head in farming a boss hundreds of times by yourself for a .00001% chance. You know, like WoW.

I found your problem, you played it for every waking moment for 4 days straight. There's a lot of problems with diablo and I'm not a fan of the idea that they're trying to make this into LFD 2.0, what with adding people pubbies to your friends list (and making them impossible to remove) and the introduction of this stupid general chat while not being able to make custom channels. Its a Diablo clone that a bunch of my rl friends play. I'm becoming a pretty big fan of coming home from work, logging on, cracking open a beer, and talking to my friends on mumble while punching the skeletons out of people or vomiting bees.
EDIT: I can't stand playing the game by myself for anything more than a hour, but I'm hating the idea that you have to be connected online to play single player more and more. If you have literally no intention to interact with anyone else while playing your video game, there's literally no reason for you to be locked out for tuesday maintenance.
