http://gawker.com/5919871/new-york-scho ... us-monitor

Quote:
An aged bus monitor employed by the Greece Central School District in Rochester, New York, is moved to tears while being verbally abused by a murder of petulant school children

Quote:
some of the nastier insults: "Dumb-ass, fat-ass." "Maybe she is an elephant." "She's gonna pick out which kid she's gonna rape next." "Karen wants herpes." "F**king hearing aid." "I'll egg your house." "What's your address so I can p*ss all over your door." "I'll f**king take a cr*p in your mouth." "You touched her arm flap. It's all stinky and smelly." "She probably eats deodorant because she can't afford real food." "What size bra are you? Triple sag?"

Quote:
She said the most painful taunt was a vile suggestion from one of the kids that her child should kill themselves. Klein's son committed suicide ten years ago.

I've heard of kids bullying other kids...which is bad enough...but bullying an elderly bus monitor? Are you serious? What the fuck is wrong with these kids? I mean...how badly could there parents have screwed up?

It makes me fucking sick.

Many years ago, I was in the employ of that 85-year-old German refugee. I speak of it often because it was the happiest and most formative period of my life.

This guy was, like I said, a German aristocrat forced out of his home country, and he behaved like a caricature given life. I have said before, I still remember first sitting down to eat lunch with him at his house. He had a bread box with five kinds of bread and served several dishes on heavy ceramic plates. I still remember how strongly I thought, "No American would eat like this."

So of course he raised his children as such. And they raised their children in the same way. I remember meeting his sons and granddaughter. Very impressive people. Very smart and dignified. Typical descendants of German Jews.

This old German rarely associated with mainstream society; he had no need to. His entire idea of what young people were like was based completely on his impressions of his grandchildren - and me.

"Young people today, are so smart," he would often say with awe.

This guy thought of me as a friend, but I never truly saw him that way. A friend is another self - mutual understanding - and he never understood me. Indeed, I made a point of only allowing him to see certain narrow elements of my personality (just as with most people in WoW). Now and then the other aspects of my personality would peer through, usually when I opinionated about social issues, other people, how to get things done, or why technological systems were designed in such ways.

And he would always turn to his fiance and they would always sadly say, "So young, and so cynical."
On many occasions.

More recently, my parents suggested I talk to him again. He had been "wanting to speak to my friend Ethan" again, they said. I didn't see the point. Anyone with his high opinion of young people is incapable of comprehension.

Hence this thread.

I did not imply that there was. It is true as what you claim I said is false, though, that some other times and places were better. Some quite a bit better.

Also, this guy was kind of like Picard in "Tapestry". I got the strong impression I would not have liked him when he was my age.

It is worth asking whether they'd do it for a man.

Google William Lashua. Different situation, different motives. I think it's relevant though.

To be a WWII vet is to have a halo over your head. Assuming you didn't fight for the bad guys, that is.

...Yeah. Not comparable.

it's not $400,000, but it's something. made my day a little better when i found out it got enough funding, since it was up the other day and had nothing.
