Long story short, I picked up all three Mass Effect games recently as I've had little to no motivation to log into WoW (ICC and Firelands get old QUICK). I finished the first two and just started the third. I am blown away by how awesome they are. I love a good story in a game, and if it can put me in the protagonist's shoes and make me feel what they feel, I'm sold. I can't wait to see what happens.

It got me thinking though... what other great games have I missed when I was playing WoW? No, I don't regret playing WoW nor do I wish I had played these when they came out instead of WoW or any of that nonsense. But combined with school, WoW left me no time to play other games and my 360 ended up collecting a lot of dust over the last 6 years. I think the only games I bought for it were the Halo games (Halo 3, ODST, Reach).

So, any suggestions FUBU? Remember, story and emotions are big for me. I can get by with slightly shoddy gameplay and many other slight flaws so long as they don't detract from those two big ones. Thanks in advance!

Borderlands story sucked imo. A few witty characters but nothing great. Just in case you were wondering.

Dragon Age Origins
KOTOR1&2
These are both Bioware and similar in feel to the ME series; if you like ME, you'll love these.
Assassin's Creed 2 & Brotherhood
I could never get into the original AC, but 2 and Brotherhood are masterpieces; they're truly epic, and definitely worth a play through. I haven't played Revelations, but I've heard iffy things about it. AC: Embers was also great as closure for Ezio.
Mirrors Edge
Short and incredibly frustrating at times, I've never played a more immersive FP game. Freerunning in first person is just hnnggggh. Can pick it up for under 15 bucks on Steam generally. (the soundtrack is awesome too)
Beyond Good and Evil
Physonauts
Get these two. Everyone should play them.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Buggy as hell, and pretty much requires the fanpatch to play, but fucking excellent RPG. If you're not into 'Gothic Horror' or Vampires, you might not get into it, but it's one of the best RPGS ever made.
New Vegas
Another 'JUST PLAY THIS' game.
Neverwinter Nights 1&2
Pretty much the closest DND3.5 has made it to the PC game (and it's Faerun to boot <3). 1 at least 10 years old now, and it's graphical limitations definitely make it hard to get into, but the story is fun and Neverwinter is wonderfully immersive. I do prefer 2, as I feel it's a bit more varied in scope (at least comparing the base games), and it's expansions (MotB) are pretty awesome as well.

Also, don't finish ME3. Just quit after the dialogue between Shep and Anderson.

@xeoni: The main story sucked, all the DLCs were awesome(excluding arena).

Final Fantasy Tactics. Fuck story, it has tactics!

Bastion, great game. Play all of the challenge map things when you play it, they got fun story stuff.

Legend of Dragoon.

I hear good things about the Persona series, I'm getting to those soon I think.

Batman arkham asylum/city are good.

Amnesia for horror if you like that.

Super Mario RPG seven stars.

Breath of Fire 3

Chrono Trigger/Cross

Kingdom Hearts

Many of these existed before WoW, but whatever. Play them if you haven't.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em coming! A lot of these I haven't even heard of. Oh did I mention I have a 360? I'm not gonna be playing on my computer, that's silly. But I means I have no access to steam and ps3 titles. Kingdom hearts :(

Speaking of fights sucking, and since it's not spoiling anything, did you notice that the Sephiroth fight in KH2 was a lot easier than in KH1? Or is it possible that I was just more adapt at games at that point? But I mean, KH2 seemed across the board easier than KH1.

Without a doubt it was harder fight and a harder game.

-There weren't any reaction commands to defend against their strongest abilities.
-Magic regen.
-You didn't have the mobility you had in 2 so it was a lot more important to read moves.
-Reflect.
-Magic regen.
-One Winged Angel (or whatever that attack was that took you down to 1 health and removed all of your magic) could be interrupted in KH2.
-Magic regen.
-Christmas Tree sword + magic regen.

Fun Fact: The first time I beat Sephiroth in KH2, I didn't know you could interrupt it.
EDIT: Fun Fact 2: In my ultimate challenge version of KH2. I beat the entire game on Hard without using items/equipment/forms(except to level up abilities) and the default Keyblade.

Sephiroth was still a joke, just a very long joke.

I have no idea what to suggest for 360.

But you have a PC that can support WoW, so some of the older games (at the very least) that people are suggesting will run fine. Bloodlines is really good. Borderlands is first-person 4-player Diablo, story irrelevant. Most of Zaryi's suggestions are good, though I can't endorse Dragon Age.

lol I don't think I knew it could be interupted at all till now.

Frost and Earth Titan were fun fights.

The end of KH2 was wierd as fuck and made like no sense to me but the final fight sequence was badass.

For the Xbox 360, I'd reccomend you try Red Dead Redemption, or Grand Theft Horse. The game is set in the 'wild west' in the early 1900s and it tells the tale of John Marston, a man who was done wrong and sets out to get revenge. The game has a very fulfilling story with very rich character development and the gameplay mechanics are solid -- very similar to Grand Theft Auto 4. This game had a scene which I would have to say was one of the most powerful and memorable of all time.
Spoiler (highlight to view):
John Marston's journey for revenge takes him south of the Mexican border, where he battles his way down the 'rio grande' with a man named Irish. Irish said he was well connected with people in the Mexican frontier and that he'd help John get connected with some people, but once they made it ashore, Irish left John in search of greener pastures. After all John had been through, he's once again alone in a foreign country with nothing more than his horse. As he starts to trot away, you hear the sound of a guitar and a man starts singing, which works so harmoniously with the pacing and new environment of the game. Most epic moment in gaming.

Still good to see, but it might be lost on people who don't know the character development which really helps make this a powerful scene.

Another game you should pick up is Alan Wake. The main game story is great up until the ending. (The manuscript pages you find help tell the story and it's worth exploring the world to find as many as you can.) Maybe I just didn't understand the ending... I dunno. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, but the DLC (which I didn't buy or play) might explain a lot more.

Alan Wake is good on the normal difficulty, but after you play through it once it's worth playing through a second time on the hardest difficulty. In this difficulty the enemies are much stronger and you're given less ammunition. This means you'll spend a lot of the game frantically running through dark woods while shadows are chasing you instead of combating the shadows with your weapons. In the hardest difficulty your only 'reliable' defense is your flashlight, and that's only so good since you can easily deplete your flashlight battery as you try to slow your attackers. The hardest difficulty makes the game much scarier and more tense and I think that's the best way Alan Wake should be enjoyed.

I like Borderlands. I played the 'hacked' version and enjoyed it, so then I bought it on the Xbox 360... and since I enjoyed it so much there, I just bought it on Steam so I could play it on my PC.

My friends wife said the Bioshock series is one of her favorites and she said she likes it for the environment and the story. I played her copy for about an hour or two and it was pretty decent. Had it's creepy 'alone' feeling.

For the NDS, The World Ends With You is the best game on the system. The gameplay is super fun and the story is pretty decent.

Lastly, Battlefield 3 because you have both money and a penis. Get it on the PC if your machine can handle it.
