That isn't really accurate since you need skills from all three expansions in order to do most endgame content, and unlocking skills manually (without buying the skill packs, which are another expense) is slow and agonizing.

And GW2 will be more microtransaction intensive than GW1.

A $60 game with microtransactions that you all can't stop drooling over...

but you all hated D3. Makes sense to me.

Any estimates on when the first private server will (or at least should) be up? I'm itching to try out GW2, but I'd rather stay my wallet until I experience a free trial of some sort. Better safe than sorry.

Just wait until they make it Free To Play.

You mean as opposed to buy to play?

You've alleged this and that about the game but nothing you've described makes it sound worse than D3. What makes you think that's going to happen?

Oh no, not cosmetic items! What a shame if you decided against spending additional money on a reskin.

You don't know what you're talking about.

If something has gold value it is no longer cosmetic because it can be cashed in for items that are not strictly cosmetic. That is how a market economy works. Anything that is worth currency is equivalent to anything else that is worth currency. A cosmetic item is therefore equivalent to any non-BoP functional item in the game.

You botted for gold in WoW so you were able to ignore the economic side of the game (and it's unlikely that will be possible in GW2), but for those of us who don't cheat or exploit, something that unbalances the economy is hugely destructive.

You've never played a MMO with a cash->currency type deal (EvE is in its own realm and not comparable to WoW or GW2 and I doubt you've played it much anyway) and haven't seen those kinds of systems in action or how hugely unbalancing they are. The impact is bigger than just that those with $$$ can get more gold, it's that they produce an insurmountable wealth curve, such that you basically have to spend $$$ or go home.

But of course your total ignorance on the topic and my explaining to you how and why those systems are bad based on fact won't alter your opinions...

Because reaching max level, getting whatever the top stat items happen to be, and choosing to never go for the flashier skins means I'm somehow losing and need to go home. Trying to change the word cosmetic into something other than a reskin doesn't work.

Your ignoring my point or being too dense to comprehend it doesn't invalidate said point.

In a market economy, anything with a value in currency is equivalent to anything and everything else that currency buys.

That you are not interested in the skins is irrelevant.

What is relevant is the tremendous inflationary pressure that $$$ for gold equivalents puts on the entire economy. Everything functional becomes so expensive there is no way you can afford it in a timely manner without resorting to $$$.

What you are really saying here is, you think market economies are awesome but you have absolutely no idea how or why they work.

The entire POINT of a market economy is that you can do just that. You can get rich and powerful selling Thneeds and change that currency into anything you want. That is both the strength and weakness of a market economy.

I'd guess 49.99. The first as been all but confirmed as 'The Cantha Expansion' with Tengu as a new playable race.

How many expansions? How often? How necessary will they be? How profoundly will they restructure the game?

If the game is successful (and therefore Anet is in a strong bargaining position), do you think expansions will be more or less frequent, or more or less necessary?

I mean as opposed to buy to play.

I've alleged this and that about GW2, which I'm entitled to. Since when and why are we comparing GW2 and D3? I didn't want D3 to be an AH but that's what it is and I am disappoint. They're completely different games, yet both hyped. I expect ANet to fail. Because what hyped MMO hasn't failed since '04?

You can "allege" the sky is green for all anyone cares but no one will believe your "allegations" unless you can back it up.

Yewluze wrote:

D3 is B2P, with RMAH. If GW2 is to go F2P then it must be worse than D3. The criticisms you have made of GW2 do not seem to indicate it is more flawed than D3, therefore, it is illogical to believe it would go F2P. Or how am I wrong?
