We were hosed either way, at least with another four years of Hopey McChangey the right people get blamed for it.

Seriously though, we should all congratulate the President on his much-deserved win, as well as the Governor for putting up one hell of a fight and keeping us all on our toes.

CHEERS TO ANOTHER FOUR YEARS!

If Obama is elected, how long until he blames himself for the problems he's inherited?

Looks like they're projecting Obama to win Virginia. Ouch.

I think a lot less people are glad Obama won than are relieved Romney lost.

The GOP appears to have taken the Senate. So, another four years of logjam. Obama won the battle, but both parties have surely lost the war. Yet the presidential election was surprisingly decisive. It's possible Romney decided not to "pull the switch" because he knew that the margin was too great to be credible. Either way, the country is definitely headed to the left.

Perhaps very far left. I think young people, as a class, are disillusioned with the two-party system and are ready to look at other options...including socialism. Perhaps even nationalist socialism.

I think that it is becoming increasingly likely that within our lifetimes we will see the resurgence of nationalism and socialism as political forces, fused with green, democratic, info-age idealism.

People accuse Obama of being an Islamofascist Communist Nazi hippie, and to that people say, "he can't be all four". Maybe he can't, but perhaps someone else can...

Yeah, I have to agree, if for no other reason than people actually showed up to vote this time. The turn-out this morning was great. I spent two hours talking to this guy in front of me who invited me to come see his old-school R+B band play. If it weren't for missing so much sleep, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more.

Which is the silver lining to the election. Hopefully we can see President Obama off after another four years with him carrying the same reputation as the last democrat to win two terms and have to deal with the opposing party for his last four.

What the hell are you talking about? Clinton was remembered as a mostly good President who was the victim of petty persecution and logjam by disgruntled and amoral Senate Republicans who shut down the government multiple times for absolutely no good reason, and were so discredited in the eyes of the nation that Newt could never show his face in public again. The net result of all that was squandering a decade of relative prosperity on partisan struggles rather than long-term growth, all because the GOP was just determined to take Clinton down and stop all business to that end.

The GOP went for Clinton's sex life (something previously considered off-limits in American politics) and accused Gore of being "boring" because they had no more legitimate criticisms. What does that say?

Most of the legislation that Clinton is lauded for signing into law, like welfare reform, happened only after he had an opposition party in both halves of congress.

They went for perjury, because you're not supposed to lie under oath, especially when you're the head of the branch of government charged with enforcing the law. It got turned into sex because a) Clinton knew if he made it about sex most people would empathize with him (no one wants their private lives exposed) and b) republicans are easily duped when they have a chance to put their petty moralism on display.

Al Gore is boring. He's also a hypocrite.

So what if he's boring? How was he a hypocrite?

Clinton lied about something that had nothing to with the well-being of the country. There's no getting past the stupid and petty basis of the entire fracas.

This is why the right wing is a bunch of selfish losers who hate America. Shutting down the govt and snooping about the President's sex life did this country absolutely no good. The fact that they undermined the dignity of the highest office in the land and brought government to a standstill is nothing to them because they don't care about what's good for America, just about their own selfish lazy asses.

While the subject of President Clinton's testimony had nothing to do with vital national interests, it wasn't the subject of the testimony but the fact that he lied during the testimony that was an issue. It's think it patently hilarious that the guy was being sued for sexual harassment and lied while testifying, but it was 'the republicans who were making it all about sex.' No one had to make it out to be about sex, it was about sex from the get-go, which is why President Clinton was lying about it.

No one had to snoop. President Clinton was less than discreet, as was at least one individual engaging in funtimes with him. Hell, his lack of discretion is what prompted the lawsuit against him in the first place. It's another sign of how low we sunk that it's the people saying "you can't lie under oath," and not the guy staining dresses, "who [are] undermining the dignity of the highest office in the land."

I didn't say there was anything wrong with Al Gore being boring. You were the one complaining about it, I'm just saying that anyone who says, "Al Gore is boring" is 100% correct. He's a hypocrite because he's pushing for everyone else to "make sacrifices for the environment," but travels in private jets and limousines, has large homes that he uses lots of energy to heat and cool, and even leased his own property for strip-mining. It's typical: everyone else needs to make the sacrifices, but I'm too important for that.

I'd also be grasping at ~15 year old straws too if everything came crashing down around me.

Obama's president, loonies like Allen West, Bachmann (hopefully), and the "legitimate rape" folks are gone, Tea Party darlings like Brown got the boot in favor of democratic candidates like Elizabeth Warren, I'm pretty sure weed is legal in the pacific northwest and colorado, gay marriage got approved in a couple states, and FOX news is cannibalizing itself.

Also, as promised, Ted Nugent will hopefully be dead or in jail within a year.

I started watching FOX after the election got called for Obama (since I was watching the Daily Show getting drunk with a friend of mine). Watching them whine about the electoral college was the perfect irony, as was how quickly they're trying to distance themselves from Romney since he wasn't "far enough to the right".

A fight almost broke out when someone said that the Republicans should try and reach out to minority voters due to changing demographics. I really hope that's par for the course.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I think everyone on the "far left" of the spectrum that was up for re-election this year, like Grayson and Sanders (who won 71-29).

I also guess that Puerto Rico is now on its way to becoming a state? Did I read that right?
