Extremely interesting.

On one level, we might say that it vindicates Jubber's national security argument. But really that is not so - the disclosure would have been the same whether he had said what he did to his spouse or any other biographer. This woman was apparently sycophantic, infatuated, perhaps even obsessed unto psychosis. What she wasn't, was a Mata Hari - an agent of a foreign power.

What is more interesting is the investigation itself.

The Senate didn't know was going on. The heads of the FBI and CIA (lol) may not have known what was going on. Obama? Who knows. Either he didn't know...or this is a political hit. After all, generals and other important people have had mistresses since forever. This is one of those unenforceable laws that is selectively enforced only as a means of persecution.

It's worth considering that the CIA has historically been allied with the GOP. Bush Sr was head of the CIA when they did all those horrible things back in the 80s. The CIA broke into Watergate in order to get Nixon re-elected. And the CIA murdered JFK because the agency was butthurt about humiliating itself and not getting their way.

It's quite possible that Obama is fighting a secret war against the CIA - he may see Petraeus as a threat to his control of the military, which has never liked or respected him, or he may believe that Petraeus may leverage that background, like Bush, to run in 2016, so he wants him out of the way of his successor.

This may also have something to do with the suspicious death of Andrew Breitbart - I remain convinced Obama had him killed. Death by induced heart attack in otherwise healthy individuals is a stock assassination tactic by the CIA (possibly also why Sharon, like his predecessor, died after stabbing the Mossad in the back), and it's possible that CIA murderers are both means and end in a dirty game being played by Obama and the military and corporations.

I remember Obama's frustration back in 2009 when he had that showdown with "a handful of hedge funds" that "were hoping that everybody else would make sacrifices, and they would have to make none...I don't stand with them." As it turned out, Obama managed to stick it way far up their asses by building a consensus to write them out of the final deal. I bet they were pissed.

It was during '09 and '10 - the GM/AIG crisis and Boehner's treachery and intrasigence - that Obama clearly decided to start playing dirty with the right wing.

Sometimes I wonder if Obama, who appears to be a bland politico, is really a much more clever, perhaps even heroic, character, than he lets on. Either way, we won't know the truth for decades.

In the final analysis, all this whole thing really shows, is how irrelevant the political system is, and how the military and corporations have usurped control of the country. The military and its spooks have made and unmade Petraeus, without the input of the electorate, the courts, or the Senate. To say nothing of abducting random people without any kind of political or legal process. Or fighting a massive secret war against "terrorists" that have never attacked us.

And this is why, to save America, the military must be cut down to size, not just financially, but also in terms of its prestige. We need to stop respecting our military people and start treating them like the America-hating traitors they are.

False - "Need To Know" applies. If she had no legitimate need to see the documents then her clearance does not apply. Even if it did, taking classified material and putting it on a non-secure personal computer is a serious breach of protocol (in fact it is not even permitted in private industry or education). If she isn't charged with multiple felonies, it's because she has boobs, period.

And Jubber seems to be being vindicated. This woman may well be a Mata Hari in the employ of the Chinese or Israelis. Why else would she need this shit?

I'd probably buy a copy, but not if you made me a character and then killed me.

To agree with you about this line, it isn't worded very well. Just because you have a security clearance, regardless of the nature of that security clearance, it doesn't mean you have a "right" to view any and all material covered by that security clearance. There are a lot of "need to know" provisions to the use of a security clearance. There are also regulations about how classified information is stored, transported, and utilized. Unless those regulations have been seriously overhauled since I was subject to them I doubt carrying them around in your personal laptop/storage medium is allowed without prior approval. Even if Broadwell is allowed to have access to the information stored on her devices, it may be a violation of protocol, which in turn would probably be a violation of the UCMJ, for her to have said information stored anywhere other than a secure, closed network.

I am open to the possibility to that those regulations have changed, since it's been at least 12 years since I even had to go to training on handling classified materials, and probably 15-20 since classified material was something I had to deal with on a regular basis. I know that military regulations are slow to change, however, and dealing with the modest amount of cyber-security stuff I have to deal with at work I doubt that any of the changes made would have allowed for home storage on personal devices more prone to the dangers of the internet.

Your Pal,
Jubber
