Holy shit Aestu. I just had this awesome idea that would mesh your knack for completionism with your game knowledge and writing. You should totally write guides, with a focus on timeliness and efficiency. You'd write some bamf guides, just I'm sure WoW and Pokemon already have been cornered in that market many times over.

If you haven't ever played Pokemon in any form and you weren't raised by nomadic tribes from New Guinea you pretty much suck as a human being, and I mean that in the nicest possible positive encouragement "go fucking play it" manner.

oddish*vileplume
rhyhorn
vulpix
dratini
abra
mareep

So this is going to be my team, judge away. Obviously their evolved forms will be used and for that reason I stated vileplume after oddish as it could have gone to bellosom.

Replace Oddish with Typlosion.
Rhydon is good
Ninetales is good since you can't get Arcanine before Kanto I believe.
Dragonite is good.
Alakazam is good (teach it Ice Punch!)
Mareep is also pretty good, can you get Raichu before Kanto?

EDIT: I assumed this was your elite 4 team.

pokemon came out the same year as StarCraft.

It wasn't a hard decision.

SoulSilver/HeartGold are probably the best of the last couple gens to come out. If you're fine with dealing with like... Gen2, Silver/Gold/Crystal are probably the best games in the series. Ruby/Sapphire are a close second imo.

But I'm a Lugia nerd, so SoulSilver!?

Quote:
GEN 1 - GameBoy Classic - Red, Blue, Yellow
GEN 2 - GameBoy Color - Gold, Silver, Crystal
GEN 3 - GameBoy Advance - Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen
GEN 4 - DS - Pearl, Diamond, Platinum; HeartGold, SoulSilver
GEN 5 - DS - Black, White, Black 2, White 2
GEN 6 - DS - X, Y {Not yet released}

Gen 1/2 games are not forward compatible - the continuity begins with Generation 3. That's not to say the early games aren't fun and viciously addictive; you just can't xfer your beloved Pokemon from those generations forward.

Each generation consists of a pair of games, released simultaneously, and a third game, released after the initial pair, including additional features (in bold), as well as an additional pair, a reboot of former generations (in italics). Each Pokemon only appears in two of the three games of each generation.

Each of the games of each pair or trio are essentially the same game, with the same gameplay; the only difference is the selection of Pokemon. Therefore, most generations have five versions of two games.

The third game in each trio largely makes the initial pair obsolete. Therefore, it's best to get Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum or B/W 2, and not bother with the initial pair.

Each generation is independently playable and the multiplayer game is centered on the latest generation, so whether you want to play them all or only the latest is a matter of preference.

You're joking, right?

Alakazam has no ATK! WHY teach it ANY physical move?! And I don't understand replacing the grass/poison Oddish with the fire Typhlosion....?

I didn't edit my post, but I meant to say use Tododile instead of Oddish. No point in having a grass and electric type. It's like 3 posts after.

Also I forgot about the move classification changes in the newer generations. In regular Silver, Ice Punch was based on Special and absolutely RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPED dragon types until Dragonite.
