So, I picked up a 10-day MoP trial, and the new talent system frightens me.
Will likely not play any further.

Yeah I wasn't a fan at first but now I am. For example, apparently Halo or Cascade is most popular for priests. But I went with Divine Star because I personally like it better.

I like swapping between Dominate Mind, Void Tendrils and Psyfiend depending on the BG / what node I'm going to..or Angelic Feather for R BGs versus Phantasm for arenas.
