Well, I'm back playing and still enjoying it. Mostly because I connected with some old friends and have had fun socializing.

Looking for Raid isn't as bad as I'd have thought. Mostly facerolling content and getting a shot at decent gear. Nice way to see things without having to be in a "raiding" guild with a schedule there's no way I could keep.

That said. WoW continues to die:

http://techland.time.com/2013/05/09/the ... -warcraft/

Still the largest MMO by far...but losing over 1 million subscribers in 3 months isn't good news.

1) I think it's just a ridiculously old game...so no wonder it's still declining
2) Questionable Blizz decisions have alienated many long time WoW players
3) They are losing Asia (most people point to this as the biggest reason)
4) Increased competition and F2P models crushing it

Interesting stuff all around. I wonder what will happen with "Titan" some people are speculating Blizz will announce it at Blizzcon this year. I assume it will cannibalize the rest of WoW's base...then it will become an F2P game with a few microstransactions available here and there.

IDK, what do you guys think?

Same cycle as always, really. Big surge for the few months following an expansion, gradual decline as time goes on, subsequent upsurge at the next expansion, rinse, repeat.

8.3 million isn't peanuts. I don't think it's safe to say that F2P is "crushing" anything yet, considering (as you mentioned) WoW is still the biggest MMO. It's certainly true that WoW is old, but games like that take a very long time to die if they die at all.

P.S. Add me, or message me your realid so I can add you.

I really need to sub to Pandas. I was enjoying the free trial a lot, but then my 10 days expired ;_;

SUNDAY. I'm going to need a break after dealing with mother's day for 12 hours straight.

Imagine if they released Vanilla/TBC/Wotlk servers for their anniversary.

I wonder how many people would come back and switch.

Just a random ass thought.

As fun as we all like to think that would be, people would probably get tired of the stagnancy right quick. No new content loses its luster.

Plus, on a Vanilla server, fucking 50% of the players would be warriors.

If by dead you mean "has gotten older and can no longer run marathons with the younger kids" then yes.

If you want a dead game, in the most recent patch of D3 someone figured out how to dupe gold. The AH has been down for the few days that I've been playing again and the economy's shit, as people made billions from hyperinflated sales (ex. 200mill for a gem that sells on teh RMAH for 75 cents).

People are retarded if they don't expect WoW subscriber numbers to fluctuate or decrease over time. How long has it been? 9 years? Don't see what the big deal is... if anything it annoys the fuck out of me when people talk about it. EVERY game goes through the same trends, and just because WoW is a subscription... people decide to freak out about it, and make it headline news. Their is always going to be people playing WoW, forever... The game won't ever completely die unless they shut down the servers. They'll always be at least one high population realm.

Because WoW has this stigma surrounding it... it's like people flock to any negative news toward it. Their are loads of subscription games and services i could probably think of, and nobody makes their subscription numbers headline news.

Confirmation bias probably has a lot to do with it. I'm guilty of that myself.

For years, I've been hoping that WoW would take a hit, or that a competitor would become massively successful, just to force the devs to rethink some of their approaches (or alternatively, to have a more enjoyable fantasy MMO to switch to).

it's also true.

you'd be amazed at how much shit like that leaks out on 4chan or other sites months before it actually happens.
