So, what about the growing illegal immigration from europe? We need to send them back there, right!?

Immigrants, no, but you said "illegal", meaning the ones who have broken the law in their host country. Whatever the punishment is, they can't complain about the implementation of it. There are avenues of legal entry into virtually all countries. I see no reason why these people don't utilize them unless they know the host would not allow them entry for some reason.

The highlight of this thread was Eturnal suggesting a demilitarized zone between the USA and Mexico in the Korean style, complete with landmines and a permanent military presence.

The law is stupid and all it will do is promote racial profiling and increase animosity between citizens and law enforcement.

Illegal immigration is a problem, this law is not a solution, it's a cop out by politicians to say "hey we're doings something, elect us."

Also, saying that it's ok because the Government isn't doing anything is bad logic, you're supposed to demand action not take the law into your own hands, pretty sure there's laws against that.

I thought the best part was when someone said the US border was "heavily fortified."

and no, people don't get murdered over drugs.

About 1,400 people have died in Juarez's drug violence this year.

I meant the Texas/Mexico border, if that wasn't clear.

I am pretty aware that people die over drugs each and every day.

Aside from that, in retrospect I realize I should have put some smilies or something because I wasn't entirely srs. Last thing I wanna do is talk to American's about American security issues. I'm dumb and all...but not that dumb.

I live with this attack on my state and my city, every day. I pay the extra taxes. My wife teaches in the public school system and my kids attended those schools, so I know firsthand the impact there. I deal with the services bogged down and cut because of these people. I live with the crimes these people commit around me. Yes, that was an illegal immigrant who came into my business with a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at my 70 year old parents (I'll be the first to admit that most of the illegal immigrants do not commit crimes outside of entering illegally, but too many of them do). I have all the "evidence" I need to realize the very real impact these people have had and are having on MY life and MY city. Your province cries over 7,000 who "might" show up, and I suppose exploits the cheap labor of the ones they decide to let stay to build you housing. My state deals with 1.4 million. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that if 1.4 million people didn't do anything but breathe, drink water, eat bread, shit and have babies, you'd have a huge resource crunch. I wonder if you're just playing devil's advocate. Man, I sure hope that is the case.

So you don't actually have any evidence apart from a couple of anecdotes. Acknowledged. I suppose you didn't consider that those 1.4 million people might also purchase goods and services from Americans, or work in jobs making or doing things that benefit Americans?

You're joking, right? Who built Canadian infrastructure before illegal immigrants?

Mostly legal immigrants, I think. The Canadian immigration system now makes it almost impossible for manual labourers to come here except on a poorly run guest worker program, and not enough citizens want the jobs, so illegals have to fill the gap.

Funnily enough, Ciudad Juarez is across the border from El Paso, which is the 3rd safest large city in the US according to the last statistics I saw. Why the sudden concern for Mexicans?

And to rahloc, i think you are missing the point as to why people dont like the bill/think it infringes on rights. What people think it will prove to be is that a cop will look at a hispanic person and say "Hey, he could be an illegal let me go ask if he is one" etc. But you can bet your ass that he wont ask a white or black person, because stereotypically they are not the illegals, but undoubtedly there are some illegal whites/blacks. It just comes down to the whole racial profile.

Yes, most illegals are mexican, especially in the southern states. But just because we know that, is it ethical to check immigration status based solely on looks/ethnicity. That in there lies the problem.

No Hispanics are just making the biggest deal about it because they can. Ther are tons of other illegals in this country I know this, however the law does not single out the hispanics they just feel it does because they are the majority. And in that area it might be stronger to sniff them out as you go. I am sure that the cops will equally pick on the middlle easterners as well.

im sorry, i don't normally jump into debates of this nature, but i'm going to have to heavily disagree with you there. i was stationed at Ft. Bliss, which is in El Paso, and it was easily the most dangerous place i've ever been. (i grew up in downtown chicago). i went to nursing school there, and from the hospital, which was built on an elevated south facing side of Transmountain, you could see right over the river and the border. every night we heard automatic gunfire, and you could see the flashes in the distance. every night we also received patient overflow from their hospitals. William Beaumont Army Medical Center is where military doctors train to treat gunshot wounds before getting deployed. the entire base and hospital grounds were frequently closed off, no one in or out, because of cartel violence spilling into the streets. there is a strict "No border crossing" regulation for military stationed there. lots of people were heading over there to see a donkey show or buy some cheap xanax and were never heard from again. only the northern side of Transmountain is safe, and that is only a small part of el paso. don't mean to piss in your cheerios or anything, but that place is DEFINITELY not one of the safest cities in america.

The claim is also made by the El Paso police department
http://www.ci.el-paso.tx.us/police/

This article isn't specific to El Paso, but its mayor says "The perception is the border is dangerous. The reality is that it is not,"
