You can blame the inbred half-wits in WV for McCain. The Mormon from Massachusetts was in a narrow lead until that caucus (there is no primary in WV, it's one of those "the party picks the candidate with an arcane system" states) split the votes evenly. So exercising the sense of honor and fair play that McCain has become known for, he sent his delegates into the second round of voting with orders to vote for the third place candidate (Huckabee). This put McCain in the lead, and made Romney's continued participation untenable. Romney dropped out of the race, Huckabee was too far behind to catch up, and the republican party was underjoyed to receive the world's second-worst republican as their nominee.

Which is probably why no republicans turned out to vote for him, something for which I believe we should all be eternally grateful.

I've heard some crazy crap about Jindal replacing Micheal Steele, or that Jindal would be running for president in 2012, which I hope isn't the case since he is inexperienced. So far, I don't have too many negatives that spring to mind when I think of him... but I really don't follow him since he's the Gov. of some state I seldom think about.

In all honesty, McCain was the best shot for the Republicans in '08. The thing is after 8 years of bush plus a black candidate, they didn't have a chance.

If McCain had another secular, socially liberal/fiscally conservative person as his VP, I would be completely fine with him being in office.

Also, aren't "beltway outsiders" the holy grail? I'm pretty sure that Palin was governor for like, a year and change before she got on the ticket and everyone was praising her for it.

That's fine for you, Mayo, but the base of his party had no use for him after 8 years of being the asshole pissing in the kitchen sink. Most republicans didn't see enough difference between him and Obama to bother turning out to support him "for the sake of the party." Most people registered as republicans don't give a shit about "the party." There are certain standards and philosophies they adhere to, and even if you do have an (R) after your name, unless you also adhere to those standards and philosophies, you can suck it.

That's why he lost. The people he needed to show up and vote for him took a look at him, remembered him being a pain-in-the-ass, and said, "Fuck this, I'm not voting for either moron."

most of the people who didn't vote for mccain, but would have, chose not to vote for him because of palin.

at least thats why i didn't vote.

Adding dumber on top of dumb certainly didn't help.
