I might be wrong, but I think Mayo just intoned that he'd prefer the one thread be a part of the other, he didn't actually move it.

I don't see moving this here being so bad since this is kind of where it belongs.

That said...WTF are we bitching about again?

Nah Jubber. Mayo moving threads here or to that stupid argument station is only part of the problem - it's him (and his mods) acting like he is the ultimate judge in what the members of the community deem to be worthwhile or not (ref. Give a Shit thread). As Dek pointed out, if the community loses interest in a thread then the thread will eventually fade to the late pages of the forum - that's how these things work. Mayo and the rest don't need to exercise their powers and police whatever derailments may take place, nor should they be locking and moving threads if they get off topic. That's what happens on general forums; this isn't the fucking high school debate team.

IMO, The Badmins should just let people say what they want and keep the threads on the main page. As stated, threads will die when the community wants the threads to die. If someone replies to a thread obviously someone gives a shit and if the badmin doesn't - don't read the thread. That simple.

Eturnal, you are making a lot of generalizations.

Perhaps for one day only the admins and mods SHOULD just go apeshit with moderation every time someone posts something we don't like, or makes a stupid thread that we already have, doesn't read a sticky, etc.

We'll just go nuts, just for a day. I don't think you realize how little moderation actually occurs on FUBU. Yeah, there's the occasional thread lock as a joke (Spaghetti-Os thread, NFL / Soccer derailment turned to mating snails) etc but those are first of all few and far between and done for comedic value and not out of any zealousness to police these forums as you put it.

So you're mad that the mods move topics to the boards they're intended to be on? Argument Station was created so political threads could have a higher standard of rules, not to mention with the traffic those threads get (since the exact same 5 people who posted on them while they were on FUBU post in them now anyways) would get spearheaded since all the other threads would knock them off the first page.

Also, this board (read: not FUBU) is to bitch about moderation, which is why I moved this thread. In no way is my word final and any other mod is completely free to unlock or moderate any thread (ex. Tuhl changed the Canadian Independence Day thread back from my Twilight edit). The only thing is that we usually agree on this, like how fucking terrible that Earl thread was.

The sub-boards were created due to there being too many threads on the main page as well as legitimate site concerns being washed away in a sea of piss.

PS: Just as an fyi, while you're bitching about how your first amendment rights are being quashed or whatever, on most private forums like these, your racist comments would've already gotten you a perma'd and everyone in that earl thread would have gotten some sort of ban. I'm honestly an inch away from instituting a "Mod Appreciation Week" where I actually start modding FUBU out of complete and utter spite.

You don't have it that bad. You can toss out all of the slurs you want at the dude who runs the site (which, again, would've gotten you banned pretty much anywhere else), but you're like 35 years old. Stop acting like a child.

Also, instead of saying I'm a jew-nazi, man up and just call me Israeli.

The Argument station was a horrible idea and I thought so from the beginning. I'm pretty sure I said that once before.

Sorry I hurt your feelings with the names and all, Mayo. Really, I am. I didn't realize your skin was so thin that a couple names and all would force you to consider banning someone (considering you're quick to insult others, too, with pretty big generalizations and other not nice words) or implementing a mod ego-boost week or whatever - I'm sure all types of hilarity will ensue when threads get moved, locked, renamed, split, etc... because it's really funny and original and it'll really show us all how much we appreciate all you do for us. I am like 35 though and very much like a child... so much like a child, in fact, I'd consider heavily policing a forum in spite of one person.

@ Israeli - Sorry. I'll be more succinct next time when dishing out nicknames. <3

Maybe he's just upset because his forum title and avatar are going for conflicting teams.

Reading Tuhl and Mayo's replies in here i can definitely picture Blizzard mods saying the exact same things.

Thread derailment becomes a problem when multiple threads are being derailed into the same topic.

Nobody wants to look at a thread, watch it be derailed into a politics discussion, go to another thread, and find it also derailed by politics. Or am I wrong? Does the majority of this board really like a number of differently named topics that morph into the same discussions?

These threads that derail into recurring topics are not only taken care of, but usually taken care of in a way that isn't hindering the discussion itself - ie, moved/split.

Also, none of the mods are slobbering on Mayo's cock because he has a yellow name. Yeah, there is chumminess to be found, but we aren't blindly faithful to every decision he makes. Our purpose is more along the lines to be helpful than anything else. I'm referring to things like: fixing broken things in posts, maybe removing an email address one might regret posting later, etc. This includes righting wrongs of other mods, that includes Mayo.

Generally, if we do lock threads, it's because of duplication (sometimes the topic a thread is derailed into is a dupe), or to stop people from having a verbal fist fight (stuff like that can be done through other, generally more private, means. Sorry drama lovers.).

Unfortunately, perfect moderation is not possible. Mistakes will happen, that is the only certainty. This is why we have a number of different moderators; it gives a system of checks and balances to help limit the number of mistakes made, and correct those that do happen.

I Cyan moderation related material so it's noticed and hopefully read.
