Ok, Dr Pepper with real sugar would trump Mr. Pibb, but I live in Georgia so I cannot acquire said drink. Unless you would like to load up the car with cases and drive east, then we can be super frenz.

You're all totally apeshit crazy if you think Coke>Pepsi.

Then again, I drink the diet versions since I can't stand the back of my mouth feeling stickier than a piece of duct tape because there's a pound of sugar in what I just drank. So that probably influences taste.

On another note, all you people that think your "thowback" or w/e sodas taste different because they have real sugar in them are off your nut. There is no discernible difference in taste between the two, because chemically speaking they're near-identical. The body processes both in the exact same fashion.

The reason you're seeing all these "throwback" sodas with 'real sugar' instead of corn syrup is because corn syrup is no longer the cheaper alternative it used to be. Now that we're dumping bajillions of pounds of corn into our goddamn gas tanks, the price of anything corn related has sky-rocketed (and yet still heavily subsidized, thank you special interests).

There seems to be a lot of idiots claiming corn syrup gives you cancer (what doesn't?), but I couldn't find anything remotely scientific to back that up. Others claim it makes you fat because of some hormone called leptin, which triggers people's appetites. Yet a recent study showed that there was a negligible difference in weight gain between people ingesting cane sugar and people ingesting corn goop.

Just everyone forward me a 2 liter of Diet Mountain Dew and we'll call this even.

Jubber

Actually Jubber, I will argue this to death with you. I can taste the difference between the artificial sweetners and sugar easily. Besides my Dr Pepper addicitton, I am a fanatic sweet tea drinker. Now, I live in the south but I do not like the super saturated sweet tea you find some places. I can tell instantly if they use sugar or sweet'n'low and that splenda shit can burn in hell. Diet drinks also tend to have as much or more sodium as a regular version. Do you remember "New Coke" when they tried to change the recipe to be a little better for you. People were trying to return that shit to the stores because it tasted like chewing on a nutrasweet pack. The only diet drink I have found that taste close to the regular is Dr Pepper, which is why there is one sitting on my desk atm.

Uh...I agree with being able to tell the difference between sugar and ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, Bane, which anyone should be able to taste. I was talking corn syrup vs. cane sugar, which no one should be able to taste a difference in since the sugars in questions are chemically almost identical...which artificial sweeteners are not.

What about all of the artificial sweeteners in Diet drinks such as aspartame which are completely proven to be carcinogens?

What about it?

My brother has smoked since he was 15-ish, and drinks like he's afraid they're going to outlaw beer and he wants to get as much as he can before they do. He's probably also the most physically healthy person I know. His philosophy is that you're not going to live forever (and why the fuck would you want to?) so you might as well do what you enjoy and if it kills you, fuck it.

I have a hard time accepting the "carcinogen" tag on a lot of stuff because the method generally used to determine whether something is a carcinogen is this:
You take a laboratory animal that is bred to be genetically predisposed to cancer.
You flood that animal's system with whatever you're testing. Basically it'd be like making a human being eat a pound of what's being tested every day.
You pretend to be shocked and surprised that an animal that is bred to get cancer develops cancer after you inundate its system with copious amounts of something.

I don't think medical science has a very good handle on cancer and what causes it at this point in history, either. The shit has probably been killing people for thousands of years and we just identified it and started studying it in the relatively recent past. In fact, does anyone know if there is any archaeological evidence of cancer? That's something I'd be interested in hearing about and discussing.

Jubber

What I meant to say is, why don't some people go do this? Go on a soft drink hightailing quest?
