People who blame a condition for their behavior are worthy of being despised.

Haha silly down syndrome kids, they need to stop fucking around and fly straight, I despise them too Aestu, you're not alone.

I see what you did there.

Aspergers is about as real as ADD.

I'm not going to debate wether it's real or not. I just think I'm an odd guy. But if I can get free grants and shit, why not.

I was actually just discussing this tonight with a coworker... how there are real diseases, and then there are states of the human body that people want to sell you pills for.

There really are conditions like Aspergers and ADD, but the VAST majority of the time it is over-diagnosed. Having had students that were in both of these categories (and on the extreme end of the spectrum), I can attest to their existence.

I don't doubt that, we were more talking along the lines of there are some conditions that are, in fact, conditions the human body can take, but that aren't inherently bad ones, just not happy good times ones.

What we were talking about specifically was anti-depressant medication being pushed in Japan recently, where traditionally and culturally they do not view being sad as a bad thing, but as simply another state of being that is a necessary part of life balance.

I guess in that case the distinction would be between clinical depression (it is caused by biochemical factors that are abnormal), and just depression in general (people taking pills to cope with loss of a loved one). One is a real, actual medical problem, and one is just something someone wants to sell you a pill for.

ADD exists. the problem is doctors(government backed drug dealers) will prescribe drugs for a kid who just isn't interested in social studies the same as a kid who is honest to God bouncing off the walls ADD.

^.

I run a pharmacy and I cringe every time I have to approve ZOLOFT or PAXIL for an 11yearold or something.

I have ADD.

They used to put me on different shit. I don't take it anymore because it really didn't make much difference.

I know a lady that cannot function without her medicine.

Although I don't disagree that prescribing shit isn't retarded much of the time, nor that there is no informal agreement between parties, there's no way to determine if something will work for someone until they try it. So I'd say that's part of the reason you see a good number of prescriptions.

Also, ADD is a very enjoyable disorder.

It'll also be why I never work a desk job.
