They have Taco Bells in Canada?

They opened up in Quebec a couple years ago, they were all over USA/Canada before. I don't if it's true or not but popular rumour is that taco bell's beef was too low quality to meet Quebec's minimum standards.

Now there's TB in Quebec... so did their meat quality go up, or Quebec's standards go down!?

This is very likely true, as taco bell is the lowest quality of beef of any fast food restaurant in Canada. As for the second part... who knows :)

That's all I got out of that.

Tuhl is right, as wrong as it is for some people to own animals, they are (a special class of) property. You should probably check with the neighbors to see if it's their dog.

Doesn't mean you have to be in a hurry to do it. You could probably feed him and clean him up a bit while you're busy not doing that.

Ya, not the neighbor's dog. Sadly, the dog I was thinking about is gonna end up coyote bait one of these days because of its d-bag owners.

We'll put up signs, and if anyone comes to claim it, I'll refer them to the shelter (who has already said they're not going to give it to them because they abused their animal).

Either way I guess it's our responsibility now, and we've already lined up 3 potential homes not counting our own.

I think it's ludicrous how people get worked up over the welfare of animals that happen to be cute. People don't care about the suffering of animals that are raised for food or that suffer as a result of human activity. There are all kinds of animals that make do in the wild, whether it's the open prarie or the urban jungle. Why should we care more about some chihuahua than a pidgeon or trout or duck?

I mentioned the stupid ban on horsemeat that was on the ballot in California a few years back - because people couldn't BEAR to think their dear horses might be ground up and used for food just like a bunch of other animals are.

I despise people who get all self-righteous about cute animals. People like that are very bigoted, small-minded, and hypocritical. Their moral view fades to zero outside a ten-foot-radius around them. Also fwiw, I think it's utterly inhumane to create breeds of animals like chihuahuas, dalmatians, pugs and Persian cats that are designed to be macabrely attractive but have poor survivability and quality of life.

I get that it's fun and all to be self-righteous, but seriously you need to relax.

Perceptions are relative and everyone's got their own little unique perspective that looks like logical swiss cheese. It's called being human...

Add to that the obvious lack of knowledge about the origins of the dogs he posted and anything about my personal views on animals in general. His post is flawed and ironically hypocritical.

I would've (and have) helped the animal regardless of the "cute factor." If someone or something is in need of help I help if I am able, or I will help find someone that can.

Are you a vegetarian and do you care (operatively speaking) for wildlife?

couple questions for you aestu:

do you care if anything suffers?
if so, how do you define suffering?
does their kingdom affect your response?
if so, why?

Yes.

ignayshus wrote:

A self-perceived sensation of negative well-being.

ignayshus wrote:

Meaningless question.

ignayshus wrote:

It is physiologically impossible for creatures outside the animal kingdom to suffer because a centralized nervous system is a necessary prerequisite for awareness of suffering.

What is your goal in opening this line of questioning?

Do you not see your own logical inconsistencies?

Your modus operandi is to make a few basic unsubstantiated assumptions from which you take wild logical leaps to come to some predetermined conclusion.

I don't hate you for that, I just recognize that's how you operate and it doesn't serve any personal purpose for me to try to affect that, even if I could. What you call nihilism, I call recognizing the reality of the situation.

Not that it is any of your business, but yes, I am a vegetarian.

I wonder if you have ever heard this story: A child walks a beach littered with starfish stranded by low tide. A man at a distance watches the child throw one starfish after another back into the water and sneers, “Child, what does it matter? You’re never going to save all those starfish.” The child stops, looks at the man, stoops, picks up another starfish, throws it back into the water. ”I saved that one,” the child answers. “It mattered to him.”

Just because I can't help everyone doesn't mean that I shouldn't help anyone.
