So one of my first tasks when I started here was to generate a cost estimate for a software suite that is being proposed to NASA which would would be developed over the next 5 years or so.

Never done it before.
Read some books on it and generated an estimated function point/lines of code amount for a project that is estimated at around $2 billion when all is said and done.

At the same time another group of resident 20yr+ veteran software engineers did the same thing. They have done this before.

Just finalized my numbers and saw theirs for the first time.

Within .15% difference from there. BOOM!
Pretty stoked on life at the moment.
Just wanted to share.

tl/dr: I am having a good day. I hope all of you are as well.

Hopefully closing on my house.
Got everything approved, just waiting for the final signatures.

Other than that, working out, groceries, taking care of the sick fiancee, playing some wow, winking lizard for dinner tonight, drink some more christmas ale...usual stuff

Possibly headed to a town about 2 hours away from me, Lubbock, to chill with some friends attending Tech... Should be good times as always. Still waiting on the confirmation however... seems they may all be broke as fuck from last weekend when they came down here to visit.

Thanksgiving weekend is the weekend I'm really looking forward to though... Dallas will be a BLAST!

Also... grats Henq, sounds ballin, brah!

Thank you sirs.

And yea hI am pretty psyched about the house but I am the type of person that doesn't want to be outwardly "woooo I got a house" until the keys are in my hand. I don't trust the loan paperwork and insurance people until the final paper is signed. Should be in a couple hours or Monday morning.

Eh, you shouldn't.

I bought my house in 2007 and it's a nice little place on a small pond or whatever... maybe about a 5-6 acre pond. So, in 2007 I was able to get a loan and all no problems. Last month I try refinancing and my lender says I need flood insurance because in 2005 the spring-fed pond was drawn into a FEMA class A flood plane... meaning they didn't ever do a study there they just think it might flood. So, I cancel the Refi but Wells Fargo is telling me I need to buy insurance otherwise they will and they'll roll it into my escrow account. I called USAA to check on the cost of insurance and they quoted me $2300/yr for flood insurance that just covers the replacement cost of the structure... no personal property. So, had I known in 2007 we were in a Class A flood zone I probably wouldn't have gone through with the purchase because that's a lot of money for something I'll never, ever, ever need.

I contacted my congressman and we're working on resolving it because I got a couple retirees that live around me and they'll get hit too if their lender catches on.

So yea, don't trust them and check into flood planes before you sign the paper work.

What's a birthing class, and if it's what I think it is, why are any men attending?

i bought a fifth of vodka and made white russians for the first time (had the other ingredients sitting around already)
i think people will be coming over tonight for hangs/boozin'/maybe watching a movie
that should be my friday

edit: also, you buying a house in cleveland means that if i ever decided that visiting my dad sounds like a good idea (it's not. it's the most boring thing ever) you have to drive all the way down to cincinnati to hang out. mayo and danzor also live there, so perhaps that'll be more incentive? ???

It's a multi-day class that goes over all kinds of crap. We get a tour of the hoispital, it tells us what to prepare for her hospital bag and then what she needs to do during the birth process... and how I can help her during the delivery. It also goes into how to change a baby, care for them, nurse them (which I'm not attending), etc. I figure if I'm going to be a dad I might as well learn as much as I can... especially since the doctor said he's going to be coming early.

And it wasn't because she told me I had to go. I was the one who brought it up because I'm kinda nervous because I don't know what teh fux to do. I never had any siblings. I never dealt with kids growing up. I need someone to show me teh ropes.

Perhaps? My house is actually on the opposite side of the state. It is closer to Warren than Cleveland.

Despite Mayo and Danzor...mister Bonesalot lives there
