If humans didn't "practice" science, then who would? All scientific laws and theories that you see as fact have been experimented on and proven by human scientists with their own varying degrees of bias and ability.

Just because something contradicts the conservative norm doesn't mean it should be immediately shot down by said conservatives in favor of established traditions.

I'm in favor of keeping positive traditions alive (e.g. Christmas regardless of faith) but to mistrust scientific evidence based on who may or may not be providing it is to go against reason.

In no way did I say anything remotely conservative. I said scientists are human and therefore fallible and flawed. Thats not partisan, that's fact.

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn. The first article posted in this thread was given a very sensationalist title by Paddywack, and does not actually have anything to do with life on Titan, which we have not observed.

You rage too much. Speculation pre-conference was life found on Titan to be Arsenic based. I am tired and haven't heard the information of the conference yet since I was at work. If anything changed since the origination of the post, I will find out tomorrow.

Thread title has been updated to reflect that things may have changed since the original posting of this thread.

what has changed since the origination of the thread is: Titan has no life discovered(yet or whatever) and some bacteria in california is NOT arsenic based but can use arsenic instead of phosphorus.

Hi, I'm NASA, and I'm not going to be super important until we stop sending up shitrockets on fossil fuels.

Story would have been more interesting if arsenic bacteria had zombified the NASA guys and they ate the brains of the reporters at the press conference.

I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking.

What science says: We only know of carbon-based life.

What people pretend science said: We know there is no other life beyond carbon-based life.

It is this fundamental misunderstanding of the way scientific theory works that causes most of such confusion.

You cannot prove a negative, and science doesn't try. It only tries to explain what has been positively observed.

With regards to the cartoon, does anyone have the exact recording or scripture of one NASA scientist claiming they found life on Titan pre-press conference?

If not, then the press it to blame for the sensationalism, and not NASA.

You ever played the game where you had a group of 30 people and one person started with a secret and the secret got passed around, one person to another till it got to the last person, and it was completely different?

If this was the case, I am sure things were lost in communication, unless one of you can prove, with absolute certainty, that the whole hooblah was over-exaggerated by a NASA scientist.

I am not saying NASA is perfect, or the people within it, but shredding it without proof is to also say things like USDK is a ninja in World of Warcraft, which I am not saying he is, but everyone joshing about this post with regards to NASA is doing so without basis in relation to the conference and the information within it.

Everyone knows USD is a ninja, and all I've been saying is exactly what that comic makes clear: someone sensationalist will make connections that aren't there.
