Seriously though, i can offer some perspective here because I used to be pretty homophobic myself (if you go to an all-boys catholic high school, being homophobic comes with the territory)
I'm not a homophobe - I'm not afraid of gay people. I don't hate them. I don't want them to all die in car wrecks. I do have my limitations, though...
1) I don't like them hitting on me.
2) I don't like them being persistant with me after I draw my line in the sand by telling them I don't bat that way.
3) I don't like the over-the-top flamboyant ones that want equality while screaming about how GAY and DIFFERENT they are.
Truth of the matter is I have a couple gay guys I know and I'm completely fine with them - they're not screaming about Gay Pride and they don't bring the issue up at all. If we're all sitting around playing Rock Band or something you can find them cuddled up on the couch, stroking the others forearm... and, again, I'm fine with that.
What I think people need to realize is, like your brother, if a gay person is born that way then they're not normal. They are abnormal in that respect and gays and their supporters need to come to grips with that fact. If their abnormality prevents them from joining the military then so be it. People get denied for all kinda shit... might be too stupid, bad eyesight, bad hygiene, a disease, etc. "But Eturnal, liking Dick doesn't make someone a bad soldier." If it's going to hurt recruitment, retention and morale then it isn't about that gay soldier, it's about their effect on the military's performance.

I think all people are born straight unless there is some defect (chemically or otherwise), which would make them birth defects as Jubber said. If the person is free of any defect then there is a natural inclination to be attracted to the opposite sex; however, there may be a point where that person chooses to hook up with someone of the same sex - that's when they choose to be gay.
So, I guess straight people don't choose to be straight - it's the default setting for most people.
So, when I first hooked up with a girl, it was just a natural default setting that I was attracted to her. I didn't "choose" to be straight by kissing her. However, if I was attracted to a dude, and hooked up with him, it would be me actively ignoring the natural default setting and "choosing" to be gay?
To sum up your argument:
You can't choose to be straight, but you can choose to be gay.
My argument:
That's retarded because I don't think anyone "chooses" who they are attracted to. If you could...I sure as hell would have only chosen to be attracted to girls that really liked me throughout my whole life. I would have never had to deal with unrequited love. Man, gay people really have it all figured out...choosing to be attracted to whoever they want.
Eh, you left out a key part of my argument... but that's k.
Oh, and if you have such problems with the girls you fall for, lower your standards because obviously you're too low for theirs.
