why is le taxi masculine and la rue feminine? how am i supposed to know which is which? is it just totally arbitrary with you people? le musée is masculine but la cafe is feminine? what's wrong with you people?

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

It's similar to English in that nothing makes any fucking sense and you only learn it by memorizing everything through repition.

About an hour in is the part where you go "fuck bilingualism", and realize English is the superior language.

"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

Actually if you're born into it you kinda have an intuition for whether your word has a penis or a vagina.

Bilinguals who learn it later on never quite get it right. Bahahahaha

German is just as bad with assigning gender to pretty much everything such as 'der Stuhl' (why is a chair masculine in the first place?) but when it becomes plural its 'die Stühle', its no wonder I stopped after a semester of German, it was fun but just too much to stuff into the brain along with all the comp sci stuff.

There is no real way-but as you learn more you do get more of a feel for what will be what. Like similar words often have the same gender-i cant give any examples because i'm still awful at french but you will get the idea.

You should finish learning it just because everything sounds angry in German.

That's what I meant, when you encounter a new word as a primary French speaker, its gender is just "common sense", and you can figure it out from that feeling.

English people make those mistakes very often and I've come to realize that it's just normal and I ignore it (it used to be comical). I've got day-to-day experience speaking French and English to both and I've never met one of the latter that has the genders quite "right", unless they're reading or have memorized a speech.

So, "good fucking luck"!
