It's an upgrade to my old Treo. Of course being able to use the mobile AH is nice, but it was going to happen anyway; my Treo was having power issues and was never very satisfactory in many ways.

I really don't like the Motorola Droid. It seems very overdesigned, too complex, too much functionality. It runs warm to the touch which makes me wary about reliability/safety issues. It does not use a stylus, so I must handle the touch screen with my hands, which means I either have to wash my hands constantly or do preventative maintenance. It comes with a retarded number of programs and icons that I'll never use and get in the way.

Questions:
1. Can I configure the Droid to use a stylus, or is there some sort of expendable protection available for the screen?
2. How do I remove the unwanted icons and programs from the menu?
3. Anything else I should know about it?

Obligatory "phones are for people who have other people to call".

Start there, there may or may not be any links to another site where a lot of the modding is done. If you wanna remove the apps you'll probably need to root your phone and probably need to mod it, needless to say it'll void your warranty.

I was getting 5-6 hours out of a battery on my phone before root.
Now I get 12+, it's actually useful.

I would've picked up the Evo/Nexus One over the Droid. It's alright but certainly not the best.

I thought this thread was about R2D2.

I am disappointed.

For some reason I thought this was going to read like this:

"So I got a droid, and her artificial skin is so soft"

Pretty sure all touch screen based phones have screens covers. i have had the same one on my Iphone for 6 months and it still looks fine. no scratches etc. Basically a thin piece of plastic that you lay on the screen and it sticks.

Our VP of IT ordered a bunch when we got Samsung Jacks but they came in two weeks after the phones for some reason. All of us had scratched our phones by then so they are sitting in our bags/on desk, lol. Our intern got one of the new Jacks when she went full time and he put the cover on hers. It looks like all imortal shit, lol. Ill keep my scratches.

No no no, that would be a dumb phone. Smart phones are all about promoting anti-social behavior. You don't have to approach people because you have all these apps/internets to surf, you're so busy with your phone that you are unapproachable by other people. Antisocial win-win.

i started using macs heavily somewhere around 10.3. 10.4 was nice.

by the time 10.5 was out, i was bored of them. the enterprise support team sucked, as well.

of course, i was using it because i got tired of using linux, and it was a nice flexible transition. that, and my first mac was a gift. my second was the company's. my third was the company's. buy one? hell no.

g4 mdd dual cpu, powerbook 12", macbook pro 15". nice machines. but necessary? no.

edit: and before you claim "quality", the exploding battery and the xserve that was shipped DoA due to a faulty sata raid card say "shut up".

edit2: i use an unlocked motorola krzr with support for chinese characters that can crash most smart (and "dumb") phones when receiving a text from me. s^?
