But it makes no sense to me (or to anyone, from what I've gathered) for the cap to be 4 and not 8.

Or why not 16?

I'm fine with the four person cap. There isn't a huge need for a ton of people since all classes are foremost damage dealers (so party composition isn't as important as past Diablos), player builds can change on a whim and there is still a scaling difficulty (325% Difficulty for full party)... it just doesn't scale past four players.

I would, but it goes live 3 AM Eastern which means by the time it's downloaded, I'll be passed out.

If you pre-purchased the digital copy you can download and patch today, meaning when the servers do go live you'll be ready to go. That is, if the login and character servers can survive.

My personal feelings about the game -- I really enjoyed the open beta a few weeks back. I like how they took out Scrolls of Identifying or whatever... and I also like how they made it easy to transport between town, way points and your party members. It was nice not worrying about people ninja-looting your shit (since everyone gets their own drops) and the shared Gold/Stash was good for starting up a third character. I thought the artistic styling was well done, too. "Wah, not dark and gritty enough!" Meh, it was plenty fine for me when my Barb would explode corpses and send bloody piles of Risen flesh flying across the screen.

The one thing I didn't like is the leveling scale. In a single play-through in the Open Beta I could make it from start to end, achieving level 10 with the death of the skeleton king. It's been said that the Open Beta is only about 1/4 of Act 1, so if I can achieve 1/6th of my max character Level in a quarter of the first quarter of the game... that just feels wrong. I'm hoping they increased experience during the open beta so people could see more skills of the five classes or that the experience curve in later levels get's much, much steeper.

For me i don't know whether to look at D3 as being the same people who made WoW, or the same people who made D2. When i listened to all the BlizzCon things about D3 it felt like standard 2011 Blizzspeak, which frightened me (for lack of a better word). I guess part of the reason i'm not excited is the Spacehunter of 2012 isn't the same Spacehunter of 2007 when it comes to Blizzard. I'm not anti-Blizzard and shit but that implicit love and trust just isn't what it used to be.

it isn't the same people. the people who made it, blizzard north, are part of arenanet now i think? they haven't been a part of the company forever.

i'm with you on the skepticism after SC2, which i'm probably letting jade me a little too much. SC2 was the biggest disappointment to me ever in terms of gaming though. i've never been let down by a game so fucking much.

Yah i know its not the exact same human beings. I mean philosophically are they of the same consciousness. That was more a jab at how WoW felt less and less satisfying as time went on in part due to changes in philosophy, versus the seemingly universal praise people throw at D2. Something kinda like that.

Liking Witch Doctor more the more i read about it.

oh didn't see your second paragraph

I feel for bros who were really hyped for SC2 and D2. I hope D2 rules 'cause i want to pour hours into something. SC2 for me ended up being a pretty fun spectator sport, so there's that.

Alrighty, the download server is up and running. If you pre-purchase by logging into Battle.net then you should have access to the full install. Won't let you play the game, but it'll let you patch and watch the opening cinematic.

Enjoy.

I don't know where they are. I'm pretty sure they're the people behind Torchlight 2, however, which I am more than excited about dropping in the summer.

I'm not too concerned. Think about the speed of leveling in Vanilla, for instance. Level 10 took a few hours, but after that it started ramping up in needed time. The halfway mark in terms of total experience was 48, not 30. It took plenty of people, even many of the ones who lived and breathed the game, several months to hit 60.

It may be quick leveling early on to help get people hooked.

So far the only thing I'm hating on is the 4 player cap.

I have at LEAST one or two more friends than 3.

i still never played the original torchlight, basically ignored it because it wasn't multiplayer even though i heard good stuff about it, so it's on my watch list.

or it could be really, really short. apparently some koreans just beat the game in 2 hours.
