Be honest. Do you think a majority of the blacks vote for Democrats because of some congressional shift post-civil rights era?
To quote Jack White, you can't take the effect and make it the cause.
The congressional shift came after the Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act was the cause, the shift the effect. Black people don't care about a shift, they care about the law that caused it.
And it was in 1964... that means that people who turned 18 that year are only in their 60s, definitely still alive and voting, and it's not like the civil rights era ended that year (it still went on for over a decade easily, if not more depending on how you would define it).
My point being, a lot of black people voting today WERE ALIVE AND VOTING WHEN IT WAS GOING ON. Let's just say that one party fighting to give you the right to go to a real school and not have to use a substandard bathroom and eat in any restaurant and generally be a real citizen is the type of thing that will earn your loyalty, and the other party fighting against these things is the type of thing that will earn your hatred. For life.
But I have a good question to flip back on you. Do you think that minorities inherently need handouts any more than any other demographic?
I'm sorry, but the welfare queen argument was always stupid, always incredibly inaccurate, and always thinly veiled racism. "Those black people are getting things they don't deserve and we need to vote for Ronny Raygun to stop it!"
There is no political conspiracy, the Republicans simply fucked themselves with black people for a generation at least (which, I'll remind you, hasn't ended).
I don't think it's any mystery why Democrats fucked themselves with most white southerners at the same time. Hell, LBJ admitted it openly when he signed the law.
I certainly don't think it's because Republicans offer entitlements to rednecks.
So you truly think all these black people - Some in the age of retirement - are holding a grudge politically when, this last year, Obama was able to motivate the minorities to go out and vote for him, increasing minority representation by great numbers? Did he do it by talking about the civil rights movement and how those dastardly Democrats-turned-Republicans tried to filibuster the Civil Rights Act? No. He did it by promising things he can't deliver on; hope, change, rainbows, unicorns, etc. The reason voted for him is because he promised them the world. It may not be in tangible terms... but he made a lot of promises and that's why he got elected. Not because of what happened decades ago... but because his electorate
wanted something. Regardless of what came first in history, the present day issues and entitlements are the driving cause. If the black (and minority) populations are voting for the Democrats for a filibuster that happened half a century ago then they're pretty fucking dumb.
Also, minorities don't
need the entitlements any more than another demographic... yet our government doesn't realize that fact and people like Zaryi perpetuate the acceptance of shit. The government has plenty of entitlement programs specifically designed to help minorities by spreading the wealth around. AA/Quotas exist to 'level the playing field' in the workforce by forcing companies and agencies to hire less qualified individuals simply because of the color of their skin. The Federal and State governments have programs like A8/MBE which exist to help women and minority business owners. Also, welfare programs that exist solely to help the impoverished (which is largely a demographic comprised of Hispanic, Asian and black groups) help solidify the entitlement base of the Democrats. Those entitlement programs that help the poor are just another angle to get votes.
Pulling this point into the main discussion, the Government is supportive of inequality and it helps maintain the double-standard in society by treating one group differently from the others. Those sucking the tit of the government will disagree with me though.
