You guys are talking about alternate universes. They are commonly referred to as alternate dimensions but that's a misnomer.

He's talking about how we live in 3 dimensional space, but there could be more dimensions that we can't perceive. And you can only understand the concept through math or analogy.

However, regarding the thought that alternate universes can't exist because none have seemingly bridged the gap there are three answers to that:
1) What makes you certain it would even be possible?
2) If you take a linear view of time (which, at the very least, is what you experience), then there must be a *before* to every action. Thus, if it is possible, even if it's inevitable, it doesn't mean it has happened yet.
3) What makes you think a society that was advanced enough to cross into an alternate universe wouldn't be smart enough to do it without you noticing?

Anything not explicitly forbidden by the laws of physics is possible. Any technology not explicitly forbidden is mandatory.

That being said, if one of those quantum psychic whatevers can replicate their power in a controlled environment, James Randi has $1 million for them.

"Technology advanced enough is indistinguishable from magic" - Arthur C. Clarke

-Invisibility? Accomplished in the lab at small scales with metamaterials.
-Quantum teleportation? Accomplished at small scale over several kilometers.
-A sphere built around a star to capture and sustain it's energy with an inside surface that sustains life? Possible.
-Wormholes? In theory. For traveling? In theory.
-No upper limit to stacking 6-Li+n=3-He+3H+free energy reactions (hydrogen bomb), no limit to how much of that energy you can manage to stack in a ray of light (laser). Matter-antimatter annihilation is the most efficient reaction because it converts all of the matter into pure energy. However it takes more energy to create antimatter than it produces.
-Parallel universes and extra geometrical dimensions are hinted by quantum mechanics.

There are obvious great engineering challenges.

Perpetual motion? Most likely not
Naked human mind over matter? Nigga please
Naked human mind over the laws of nature? Lol.
Ramtha the 35,000 years old Atlantis warrior channeled through that blonde bitch in the documentary? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

We're a part of, and a product of nature and that includes consciousness. We're also an infinitely arrogant specie when it comes to our senses and intelligence.

Paradigm shift? Crackpots love that term.

We've already invented it!

I think it works by sucking all the energy out of the star or something.

(Nerd joke. Also, I love that the url for that picture is gifts-for-women.net. Happy birthday sweetheart, now clean the fucking house.)

IF YOU THINK YOU UNDERSTAND QUANTUM MECHANICS, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND QUANTUM MECHANICS.

1) It's violently unintuitive, the human brain cannot imagine it just like it cannot imagine extra dimensions (only projections/calculations).

2) Physics is now deeper than particles. Quark quack sounds good, though. Cures you with up down top bottom charm strange. That'd resonate with those folks.

edit: holy fuck, this grossed $10M

Finding something interesting doesn't mean you find it to be ultimate truth Judas Priest u mad

I did notice in that film there were a few notes that actually were true such as some descriptions of particle behavior. It's like watching the news and when they get the weather or something else wrong calling the entire news broadcast bs. redtextunderline

Oh yeah there's nothing wrong with enjoying the thoughts and stories, but I just didn't want to sweep the spread of pseudoscience under the rug. I noticed that there are a lot of followers of mumbo-jumbo that involves quantum mechanics rather recently. :P

(I wasn't criticizing you or anything, QM confusion in students and the scientific community is probably the source of half of the sales of Aspirin)

Just wanted to toss that out there.

Oh, and there's several layers to "reality".

Humans flying in macheens? That breaks every laws of aerodynamics.

You fool!

I understood this thread more when it was about quantum mechanics than I do now.
