Reading that TB goodbye post, I feel I've read the exact same post many times. Why? Because I have. There are two kinds of guilds: Those who have disbanded and those who will disband. The biggest mistake guilds make is when they experience success at a pretty high level, then start putting skill over personality in recruiting. Long-time, experienced players don't want to take the time to teach friendly, but less-skilled players, so they pick up high-quality players without asking, "why is this quality player without a guild... again?" Guilds pick up players with no history or loyalty to the guild for a quick fix. Guild dissolution usually begins when key leadership "get a real life" (often these people are intelligent and "get a real life" is code for "i see the writing on the wall"). Then other leaders who enjoyed the game most when playing with the leaving player(s) are no longer willing to put up with the annoying parts of the game for people they haven't gone through the gauntlet with. Then these people are replaced with the aforementioned "skill" players who come in with their own ideas, agendas and expectations. Chemistry suffers. Progression stalls. Nerdrage ensues. RIP.

Guilds need to be honest with themselves. Success you had in the past does not make you a top-level guild now. It only means you were a top-level guild THEN.

Oh, and there's one other thing top guilds have in common: When they die, the schadenfreude is palpable.

What sucks about Cata? I've enjoyed it so far and have literally been in one raid lol.

You can only play a game so long with little change and have it be fun. And when friends start drifting away it makes it even harder to stick around.

why is recruitment so hard now?

If the average player is anything like me, their Cata vigor has drastically dropped, to the point of cessation, and a lot less people are playing.

This is very perceptive - I've been thinking along these lines recently. It's a common thing these days.

TB...they recruited a LOT of people cross-server recently. I've seen a huge number of TB applicants running around. =/

I'm not allowed to raid because my guild is full of cool bros and I don't want to leave them but they're not good enough to do anything. That being said, all of the good guilds I've seen have been terrible communitywise.

I had fun raiding during Wrath, it was nice to be on the progression side of things for a change and not just farming Kara everyweek.

Alas, I'll just have to focus on ganking QD Isle style.

I had more fun farting around in karazhan than any other raid, tbh. it wasn't serious enough to be hard, and 10 mans were always more fun for me.

I suppose this is largely true for me...but I like to log in and slap dicks with some of my bros every now and then. As for raiding, I truly give a shit less...I don't think I really cared about progression since TBC.

The problem with WoW is that it's more of the same...and how can they change it, really? You always start with shitty gear...farm farm farm, slowly get better pieces. The bosses look different, but it's always the same: don't stand in this, move here, don't blow up the raid, stop DPS, kill adds, start DPS, etc.

Perhaps now since Cata is the 3rd expansion people are finally starting to realize that WoW is nothing but a rat race, and will never be anything else. The only people who remain are those who have formed friendships and enjoy occasionally playing with some bros.
