The truncated graph is misleading. The difference is only about one in ten which is within the range of normal deviation from a theoretically perfect 50/50 split.

Interesting though that Horde is always winning more across the board. No matter how small the deviation may be, I think that is telling. If it were truly 50/50, you'd think Alliance would have a slight advantage in more than one BG.

I just don't quite understand the reasons, but I think it's:

1. The way the BGs are designed slightly favor horde? I think I remember someone bitching about the horde's WG base once.
2. More mature player base
3. Better Racials <-- lol, obviously it wouldn't have that big of an impact...but yea, horde racials are better.
4. God rolls Horde

My time as Alliance (classic -> early wrath), it definitely felt as if Alliance lost more, both before and after cross-realm BGs. I went Horde late wrath and started pvping more and the difference is noticeable, we win quite a lot more. In fact, my personal experience is more like 80-20 lately. Perhaps it's just the time of day since I play during the early morning. Even AV, which was almost a lock when I played Alliance, is now better than 50/50 win percentage for me (I usually push for people to defend and backcap).

As for your reasons:
1. AV favors horde. Backcapping and playing D will win every time. If everyone zergs horde gets tripped up around Bal and never regains the momentum. I never had a complaint about WG, but AB's golden triangle favors horde, BS/Farm/LM is the most easily defensible threesome on the map.

2. I wouldn't say more mature, but I do believe there are simply more pvpers on horde. Both sides have their road-fighting mouth-breathers.

3. The racials issue has gone back and forth for a while. They make a difference in arenas but if you're losing in a BG because of a racial you did something wrong way before that point anyway.

4. This.

5. Again this is just personal experience, but I run into very few R.Druids or R.Shaman on the alliance side. Their healers seem to usually be Priests or Paladins, and it does seem like there are fewer heals on Alliance than Horde (slightly balanced by the overwhelming number of horde morons who keep beating on the rogue instead of the guy who is healing the rogue).

Misleading about the scale but not the trend.

Edit: don't take this to mean I give a shit about battlegrounds or wow in general.

AV: 146/186 = 78%
AB: 313/462 = 67.7%
EOTS: 133/186 = 71.5%
Strand: 137/194 = 70.6%
WSG: 399/500 = 79.8%
Isle: 37/51 = 72.5%

Thats on my DK and is the entirety of my battlemaster grind.

It varies by battlegroup and over time. My paladin had something like a 65% win rate when I was getting Battlemaster, but then it dropped off and all of my 80/85s have under 50% now. I think merging the battlegroups made a big difference, as Ruin was unusually Alliance favoured for some reason. I think the small difference between the factions is primarily a cultural thing - the side that wins learns what to do in a winning game and continues winning, while the losing side doesn't know what they did wrong and either runs around aimlessly or gives up.

You haven't needed to get into DB to win AV since they added reinforcements. Horde have the first strong choke at Iceblood, closer to a defense graveyard than the offensive graveyard and next to their 1st tower and their captain; Alliance have their first strong choke at Icewing, closer to the offensive graveyard than the defensive graveyard and well behind their 1st tower and captain. If Horde wants to win they just have to turtle every game at IB.
